Man on speeding motorcycle dies hitting 18-wheeler

Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

A man was killed about 8:20 p.m. Friday in a motorcycle accident on Westheimer in west Harris County.

Van Jason Houdek was traveling eastbound on his Suzuki motorcycle in the 16300 block of Westheimer when he struck the rear of a tractor trailer that was turning left onto Westheimer Place Drive.

Witnesses reported that Houdek was traveling at high speed before to the crash, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

Houdek died at the scene.

RIP......

you know, i see these post and just cant imagine what the families are going through, but i also cant help and think that the man got to go in a way most of us would choose...doing something he loved. i know its gotta be so hard on his family but atleast he went out with a bang. like it was said earlier in the thread, when its your time, its your time, and what a way to go.

my thoughts and prayers go out to his family

* sorry if i offended anyone, just the way i feel about these things.

Just read this online at abc13.com and saw this thread around the same time

(11/18/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - A motorcyclist was killed in a high speed crash with an 18-wheeler in southwest Houston.

Police say the victim was driving more than 100 miles per hour on Westheimer Friday night. The big rig was turning left into the bike's path near Westheimer Place. The victim wasn't able to stop and slammed into trailer.

He died at the scene. Police believe alcohol is a factor.

RIP.....it is always sad to hear these stories

one of my friends that went on the 149 ride today just called a minute ago and said a guy on a purple kawi went down. don't know all the details but he did say his wrist was shattered. take it easy out there folks. it seems like these "RIP" and "rider down" threads are more and more frequent.

Not really, statistically most crashes happen in the spring and summer....

Most crashes do occur during spring and summer but at the beginning of the cooler weather you get the riders who didnt want to ride that much in the heat and you get a quick surge of accidents around this time. Every year its the same.

Hey guys this is one of Van's best friends, we have known eachother since middleschool. Me, Van and Bobby (precision cycles) were really really close. We just had the memorial service for him yesterday, It was really really tough as anybody could imagine. He is going to be creamated and is going to have is ashes spread in a small town in Italy where his mother was from. Van was absoutley the most real and true person I have ever known. I didnt know of a single person that could say a bad thing about him, seriously. He would never lie to you and would give you the last dollar that he had if you asked for it. I was in a really bad wreck about 5 years ago and was in the hospital for nearly 1 1/2 months. Van was there almost everyday, even when i was in a coma for a week. Friends like that dont come around often. Its just really hard to take because he only had that dam bike for 3 weeks or so and he absoultley loved that fuking thing. Another really fuked up part is that he had just recently paid allot of money to get his brother out of jail and he finally got out the night Van passed, Will (his brother) got out at aprox 9pm, almost the exact same time the accident happend..so that was the first news that Will got when he got out. Anyways I just wanted to say thanks for all the kind words from you guys that knew him and even the ones that didnt. I saw on this thread that some of yall were thinking about doing a lil ride for him, I think that would be really cool, and I think he would have wanted us to keep riding strong also. please let me know who would be intrested in doing this so we could get something lined up, I will leave my email and phone # at bottom so you guys can get in touch with me....

RIP to my brother Red, you will be missed greatly and we will never forget you!!
