The rider was headed westbound on Harborside Drive at 8:31 p.m. Saturday when the rider veered into the eastbound lanes and slammed head on into an oncoming pickup, Galveston police said.

Witnesses told police the bike rider was traveling very fast, and when he came upon the intersection at 51st Street, he went into the turn lane and into oncoming traffic, Galveston police Lt. Byron Franklin said.

Its estimated he was going 100 mph when he struck the truck, Franklin said.

Who's actually surprised about this? I'm surprised that more aren't dead to be honest.

I was litteally right behind the truck that hit him. It was terrible and 100% the bikers fault. One thing I can say is luckily I was taking my time, diving slow and it wasn't me that hit him bc the impact was so hard it would have ripped me and my vette to shreads. The truck that was hit was an old school chevy so very heavy no plastic and it was !

No idea if he was wearing his helmet as it was across several Lanes of traffic.

Me and my brother-in-law were heading down there yesterday. We were on 45 just a few miles from the last big bridge getting onto the island. We knew there were cops everywhere. We were just cruising at 65mph. Some angry Harley rider decided we were too slow, he blatted by us doing about 100mph, gave me an angry scowl and proceeded to think he was a badass. State trooper nabbed him...
It was amazing too see how many of those riders were drunk and riding. All the Goldwings I saw all had Beer cans in their cupholders...lol Wow. I am so surprised there aren't more deaths. I did have a good time though, and the bikes were interesting.

Do you realize that the first article you quoted is from last year?

Or did you think that the writer can look into the future??..

How bout instead of saying "I'm surprised there aren't more wrecks"...You guys say..

"glad there were not more serious wrecks"...I understand you guys are upset about the careless riding, but no reason to root for people getting hurt (or at least that's how it comes off at times)

not sure where you saw we were "rooting" for more death/wrecks. how about you step off your high horse tonto and go re-read. we are just going off of past records of accidents and deaths and are surprised there haven't been more carnage than usual.
