make sure to go out and practice emergancy braking, start slow and build up speed gradually

squeeze the brakes as you get more aggressive on braking, NO GRABBING the brakes.

word, I've scared myself doing this before. I know this is a somewhat controversial subject, but what do y'all say on the break-in period? I've heard all kinds of stuff. The most logical seems to be to just ride like normal...?

Follow the advice of the engineers who built the bike. Break in periods exist for a reason and you can screw up your new baby if you don't follow it. Harley-Davidson seem more prone than Metrics, but I wouldn't chance it.

Just joking of course. Stay safe and congrats on the new motorcycle.

As for the break in I followed Motomans method.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Did not give me any trouble, the bike runs great, and I noticed I do not have the same problems with oil consumption that other KLR owners have at high RPMs. Food for thought.

thats what i did. i reasoned that the manufacturer spent all that time and money on r&d to build the bike and would know better than some guy saying "well i did this this and that and it worked just fine!".

I think the oil change interval is kind of pushing it for break-in. I think they said to do the first oil change at 600 miles? I think I did mine at 100 miles and 300 miles and then 700 miles and went to synthetic at 1200 miles. When I did my first oil change at 100 miles, there was a crapload of shavings in the oil and filter.

Check the FAQ over at Ninjette.org. Gobs of info on that site. If you have any questions, just shoot me a PM and ask.

1) Congratulations on the new wheels! Gorgeous bike.
2) Tony at CG is good people. CG does some things I don't like, but I believe in doing business with honest, straightforward folks. Tony fits the bill.
3) Less talking MOAR RIDING!
