Title transfer question

I want to pick up a bike off of somebody, but the title isn't under his name. He does have the actual title and a bill of sale stating that he bought it, just never transferred it to his name.

Would it be difficult for me to transfer it to my name?

As long as the the line where you print and sign the title is blank and the date isn't signed than you're ok. I'd check to see if it's stolen but contacting the local DMV and they can run the VIN.

Just a heads up. Anyone can print up a bill of sale and forge it.

Yep, the title is signed and everything. I wouldn't need any other forms whenever I bring to the court? Is DMV open tomorrow to run a VIN check? I have the VIN on me.

If the title is signed by the previous owner but he isn't listed as the buyer on the title you can put your name there instead. The person he bought it from would also have to sign a title transfer form stating you bought it, but if you can't find them you can forge their signature. If his name is already written on the title as the buyer then you have to get the original owner to get a new title, or he has to register the bike in his name, pay the taxes and then sign the title he receives over to you.

Thats the only form you need. You dont even need a hand written bill of sale.

(restating whats said above)
As long as the buyers line on the title is blank and there is no date then you are good to go. Just print off a 130u and forge a sig or two from PO. Take it too the courthouse and get it done. I had to do this myself one time as the previous owner was out of country (iraq) and his roomie was selling the bike for him.

Buyers line is blank, what if the date is filled though? I believe the date is from July 2011. I'll just be paying late fees? That's what the seller is telling me, I'll see it for sure again tomorrow. I was hoping to buy it then too.

if its dated you will just have to pay late fees. other than that, since all is signed and the buyer spots are still blank just put in your info and register. or call the dude from the post above? state fees/penalties, etc will be the same whether you go to state tax office or through a third party registration co.

I'm just curious, so what would the fees be or how do they charge on a title transfer. For instance out of state title transfer to Texas
