You might want to list your education, experience and abilities.
How long have you been working as a graphic designer/web designer?
Where did you work before?
Any web portfolio available?
What kind of programs do you use?

You definitely need a portfolio to show the work you have done.

Also, design a website and have some graphics and examples of your work on there.

I'd also recommend to network as much as you can. Go to www.marketingpower.com and sign up for their newsletter. When they have networking events for the Houston Chapter coming up, go to some and have a business card and your portfolio ready.
They also have regular newsletters with local job openenings.

Good luck.

I have done all that already and the geocities has been up and down all day so all the work or some of it anyways is on there. But when I am service manager at a Motorcycle shop it pretty much elimenates any events that I can attend. Its just been difficult to get a foot in the door. You know there like need experience how can you get experience if no one will give ya a chance. So I have been doing jobs here and there. to get experience.

Most places won't hire unless you have a degree or lots of experience with fat portfolio (I'm talking about actual hard copies of products).
I started in this field about four years ago.
Started from an internship-freelance-part time-full time.
It took me four years to get where I am now.
You gotta keep trying and be patient.

To take part in an event, take a few hours off. Most are called 'luncheons' and don't take longer than a few hours during that time.

Another way to get experience is doing websites for friends who are opening a business or finding out who they work with and provide the graphics.

An even better way, volunteer at some organization in Houston or Texas. There are more than enough organizations that need a good webmaster. Of course, it helps if you care about the issue and can really give them time. In return, you have a good reference and you can practise all you want.

I once heard my boyfriend talking of something like this for another group but this group could do it as well:

Design some baseball/football type cards where people can submit a pic of their bike to you with a brief description of themselves and the bike and their screen name. Depending on what they want to do with it, let them get copies to hand out to friends and/or keep one with emergency info printed on the back for rides. This will get people talking about you and if you have a small logo and website on the bottom, they may get in touch with you for other stuff. They may pay you a small fee for printing cost.

Also, design some cool sigs for people on this forum. I would LOVE to have a jpeg that shows my horse, my bike and a glimpse of me in one photoshopped sig line pic with Faylaricia over it. Let me know if you want to do it. :icon_bigg

Just be creative. Do things and people will notice.
