Sounds kind of weird since it is registered here. But what I always do is call the down at the title office and they will tell ya over the phone what is the best way to handle it.

Is the title all signed? Do you have a 130U? Even though it's currently registered and inspected here, they will still want a green sheet from the inspection.
If everything is all filled out, take the title, the filled out 130U, the green sheet and proof of insurance down to the courthose and have them retitle it in your cousins name. You'll have to pay taxes, .0625 of the blue book value of the car, $33.00 for title application, and $90.00 for out of state title transfer.
That should be about it.

Hey patrick is that where they get the bike values to (out of bluebook)? I freaked out when they put in the VIN on the gixxer(that I bought out of state) then charged me .0625 of tax on 80% of the value. I think that law went into effect on 10/1/06 if I remember right.

make sure when you get it inspected, get the OUT OF STATE inspection slip with it, which costs 1 dollar. Then just transfer it like a normal title. I work at a dealership and do title work like this all the time, its simple, and should be no probs

Why not just pay Calif to transfer the title to her name?

When I first moved out here all of mine had Calif titles but were reg/licensed/inspected in Tx. I've since sold them all so I'm wondering why get the title transfered?

would seem to be more hassle to deal w/ CA then TX.

It might be worth a phone call, or even check online. I think it's only $10 to transfer to her name.
