Where to ride near Houston

Anybody have suggestions on short <4hr rides (not including breaks) that I can take the gf?
I like heading down to Surfside / Blue Water Highway on back roads, but maybe something North or East? (coming from SE side) Heading to Livingston or Sam Houston National Forest will be too far, I fear.

Any routes you can suggest? PM me with info if you want.

TIA

I'm in Katy/West side Houston. I have taken Fry rd. all the way up to 249, take 249 to 149 drive all around Lake Conroe, sometimes I'll take 45 South back home, or sometimes I'll double back and go home the same way I came. It's a decent ride, best your going to get without riding real far.

One of my favorite "relaxation" rides is HWY6 from Alvin all the way up to just past 10 to Clay Rd. West on Clay and then back to 10 a few blocks on Fry Rd to a place called Ritter's Frozen Custard. Once you've had their custard you won't even serve ice cream to your dog.
6 is nice and smooth and she won't have to hang on for dear life. Go after 7:00pm to miss the traffic. Yeah, there's a lot of lights, but hey, I'm still on the bike and I've taken a lot of girls up there and lights are a good place to have a little conversation or a little "grab" he he. It's almost a 4 hr. event there and back depending on how long it takes to eat the custard.

+1 on the Ritter's! I moved to Katy 5 years ago, and I hadn't tried them until just this past summer. Holy ! I didn't know what I was missing.

Might be a bit far from SE side, but looking into it. What is 149?

These are a lot of the same roads I take when weaving my way down to the coast

Ha, my nuts don't appreciate stop lights 2up. I'll have to try Ritter's... I tried frozen custard for the first time a few weeks ago - didn't hate it, but didn't think it was great. Though maybe it's because I was looking for gelato but got bait-n-switched.

I like the site, but from SE Houston these are all long rides. The only short rides listed are near forest, which would be too much... have to work her up to those distances with something entertaining and not too long. Did that come out wrong?

When not at college I live down there near Angleton. At the moment my favorite road to ride on is Levee Road (aka County Rd 690) just off of 332 north of surfside beach. Its a short ride but it is a blast.

I'll hit that next time I'm there.

I just got back from this one, I live in Sugar Land. Take 59 SW to highway 99, then south to FM 762. 762 is a great ride down to Brazos Bend State park. The park itself is worth the $7.00 entry fee. It has a lot to see, trails, and is wonderful to picnic/lunch at, or camp. The mosquitoes though, right now, are in clouds. They ate me alive, so my stay was short. Note to self: get mosquito spray and put in little bike pack. Watch for deer if you ride early morning or dusk though. There is also a ranch visitors center nearby.

Thanks all. Wend down to Rosharon, Brazos Bend park area, then up FM 762 up to Richmond then Katy to visit some family. Enjoyed getting a longer ride -- been a while.
