Way back when cars still had carburetors and A/C was still optional, I lived in the DC area. The MD state police would do that all the time then - until they lost like 5 officers in 3 days due to that crazy .

Jumping in front of a speeding car HOPING your badge will keep you from getting turned into road pizza is stupid. Not only can you get hit, but the driver could understandably overreact and end up causing an accident which kills others.

Perhaps I should go back and take them coffee and donuts, maybe it will make them laugh enough to throw away my ticket

Yesterday, they were several motorcycle cops inbetween the poles/plastic markers that seperate the HOV and reg freeway running laser. They are out there all the time at the exit at Park 10 and running up the feeder going towards Katy. The speed limit on the feeder is 50mph and they pop people daily around here. I work in the park 10 area, so nothing new.

If stopping traffic on the service road and directing them to a parking lot is too dangerous for motor officers then what is the preferred method of traffic enforcement?

A guy I stopped told me I was cheating by flagging over traffic on the service rd. Then when I run traffic on the freeway people ask for a warning when they are going 80+ on the freeway.

its hard to hop in a car when you're on a motorcycle all day.

Chasing down traffic on a motorcycle is just as or more dangerous than stopping traffic on the service rd.

Jumping out in front of a car moving at high speed is a very good way to get yourself squashed.

What happens if the driver is not looking out the windshield at the moment you decide to jump in front of him? You get turned into road pizza is what.

Or maybe you get out of the way fast enough, but the person genuinely didnt see you and just keeps going. Now what? You make the choice to chase them down in a full on rage because they didn't respect your authority when all they did was not see some idiot standing in the road?

My point is that all police work on a bike is dangerous but any form of traffic enforcement is especially dangerous. It doesn't matter if you're flagging traffic on the service road or chasing them down. Personally I have no qualms with running traffic either way but regardless no one likes getting a ticket, end of story.

The amazing thing is that the majority of the time a single speeding ticket turns into no dl, no insurance, expired stickers, kids riding unsecured, weed in the ashtray, dope under the seat, warrants for unpaid child support, people with a mexican/guatemalan/el salvador/honduras consulate id and no Texas DL but yet they seem to get some bootleg insurance.

This is the same stuff that people on here cry about every day when they get hit and the drivers runs or if they do manage to stay they have no dl and insurance.

It might even be a perfectly good defense in court if you accidentally hit one, as someone jumping out onto an active feeder road with no destination on the other side is not the norm and a reasonable person would not expect it to happen.

How to do it better...

Cop with laser tags motorist, second cop in car starts lights up and pulls them over.

no playing Frogger... it never ends well.
