Mike, most of us were busy learning long division and how to pronounce 4 syllable words. I was more concerned about jumping my Haro back then instead of my Kawi. lol

@ 2:44 rainey points at doohan's rear tire like they were going 5 mph or something, those guys were tough as nails back then and made that look way to easy. Good find.

Yup
tires were by todays standards,
suspension was basic compared to todays race bike
knife edge power bands controlled ONLY by the rider, no traction control, anti wheelie, launch control or anything else....................

At Hockenheim the straights were so long and so fast the rear tire would "shrink" across its width as the centrifugal forces came into play....
Slip streaming was king but dangerous, riders would watch the exhaust pipes of the rider in front and take avoiding action at the first puff of smoke..... this being the first indication of an immanent seizure

I ran into Kevin Schwantz yesterday at City Park in Austin. Cool dude. He was riding his mountain bike with his black lab on the motorcycle trail at City Park. Me and some friends were trail riding.

Schwantz truck

Kev Schwantz

Super nice guy. We talked with him some about Circuit of The Americas and he did confirm he's moving his school to CoTA.
