Raises

Ok, so I have been at my job for about a year and a half now. We are a training restaurant which means we train alot of the Houston area managers for six weeks so I meet alot of new managers. I have been finding out that I am not making what most of the new mgrs are making. We are supposed to get performance evaluations after a year. I told my boss about 3 months ago that i wanted a raise, a pretty substantial one. He said he knows that I deserve more and has already talked to his boss. I have not gotten anything yet and I have been asking him about once every two weeks or so. Heres my problem, I asked him again today and its gotten to where he is getting upset at me for asking, and telling me its coming and just wait. He also said it is pro-rated so I will receive it eventually anyways. Do I continue to wait? Should I go above him and ask my district manager? Thanks guys.

No do not do that! Send him an email asking him for an update so that you have some kind of record. If that fails then maybe contact the district manager.

Well, I work with my boss pretty much everyday so I couldnt really send him an email. I just ask him. I asked today "Hey, have you done our evals yet?" He got a little upset.

Yeah, don't go over his head, but I would ask one more time for a hard date to expect the raise. If he can't give that to you after all this time. I would pick a date that only you know. If you haven't received anything by his date, nor your date, then move on.

cool thanks for all the advice. I mean, i could understand if he felt I was not performing, but there was an incident a few months ago where a couple of the mgrs wanted to get me transfered so they could come to my restaurant. My GM told the district no, he is not going anywhere. I hear from everyone that my GM likes me alot ya know? He has alot of pull knowing the owner and working with us for 12 years.

No but very tight, but that makes no difference now because the mgrs salaries dont hit the restaurant anymore they hit the district mgr

You know, I've dealt with the same thing at my company... we've been promised a CPA (Competitive Pay Adjustment) for about the past 18 months now as our competitors are generally paying $10k-$13k more per year for the same title with less responsibilities. I've had about 5 friends in the past year leave the company to take the opportunities elsewhere. I've nearly taken 2 offers from our competitors but turned them down because of the company stability and working conditions... but I'm getting real close to pulling the trigger on something new. It's frustrating knowing that on the market your worth so much more than what your company is willing to fork out.

Yeah I can go out tomorrow and get a FOH or BOH job at a full service restaurant, problem is ill be working 10-15 hours more a week, and the stress level will be much higher. Here I am not working too many hours at all for a restaurant.

my opinion................go over his head instantly! my experience in the corporate world is trust no one.......and then the ones that you do trust, dont trust them either. Your boss isnt working in your best interest, go out there and get yours like you said you can get more pay or whatever so the only fallback is your boss will get at you and you can just say bye bye. Get on his higher up and show them your side.

Hey you want me to talk to Kevin for ya?? I will play him a round of hold em for your raise. LOL

Naw if I was you I would not go over his head, that will just make problems and he does like you and does not want you to go anywhere else. So I would wait and see or wait till the beginning of the year and talk to him again.
