Legally?
Thats funny...Didn't you just post in another thread you created six minutes before this one that you got pulled over and had a card ?? I don't think the cops the only one full of here....

Memorial Villages Police Rant
So I usually take memorial homes..less traffic no drunks. Well lo and behold, i get pulled over...5th time by the SAME cop. This guy combs over my bike trying to write me a ticket for something, holds me up and calls to verify my insurance even though i have a card.

Finally I had enough.

Me "Sir, this is bordering on harassment, youve pulled me over 5 times in a year"

cop "we just dont like you bikers back here"

me " ok, well im going to keep coming so stock up on donuts porky"

cop "ur license plate lightbulb looks out, heres a ticket"

me "np, ill just go buy one for $1 at the store, drop by court at lunch and give them the receipt...nice try"

cop " have a good night"

The screen on his phone is about 2x that size, and to be fair, its about the same size as an insurance verification card. The cop takes his attention off his surroundings longer to write up the ticket...

No bikes right now. :(

There's a bunch of ways to prove you have insurance. The most common way is by using the standard little insurance policy form that we all have. If you are using this form, the statute says it needs to be the form the insurance company issued to you. No copies.

But you can also present your original policy or a copy of your policy. So I think if you PDF'ed your entire policy and kept that on your phone, it would be valid.

Somebody make a test case and I'll argue it all the way up to the Court of Criminal Appeals.

I would, but my favorite test officer is retired...

Here's what REALLY me off. I keep hearing, from commercials, cops, etc that they can check the plates in their computer and find out right away if you're driving uninsured. That's great, it really is. My problem with that is the officers either don't know how or are flat out lying about it. I've gotten two tickets now, for not carrying my proof. Both instances, I was asked for proof, and said "I don't have it on me, just run my info and you can see my insurance"..."no, we can't do that, I don't know who told you that but it's a lie, here's your ticket"

WTF? I know they can do it. why would they refuse to do so?

I generally do, but recently switched insurance, and was awaiting my permenant ID card in the mail. I had the temporary email one you print out, which I left in my tank bag, which apparently isn't as waterproof as I thought. The first time I pulled it out all the ink had run and he just gave me this blank stare lol.

You could always carry it in your wallet. I have the insurance in my wallet and another one in my trunk. I don't understand why, but some cops really hate bikers.

When TexasSure was rolled out, a lot of agencies could not access it, and may still be the case. Maybe its still the case....

OP must have a lot of free time.. scanning and saving to his phone rather than adding yet another small piece of paper to his bulging wallet
Going the same route even tho he has been pulled over multiple times
Posting up two threads on the web crying about it

A lot of effort put into not doing something that is simple and painless.... i.e. carrying the required proof of insurance.

, you're REALLY reaching there.

I won't argue that a phone doc. should be sufficient substitute for a paper copy, but to say that the difference in size between the two (because the small size of the phone could distract the officer from his dangerous surroundings) is the reason for the phne doc. not being acceptable is rather asinine. LOL.

Then again, its not that big of a deal to carry the paper copy.
You hate to agree with Morvegil? That's classic!

I was pulled over a while back and didn't have the hard copy of my proof of ins, but had a copy on my navi screen with all the info: policy number, company, provider, telephone number etc. The cop looked at it and I even offered to call Famers and verify its all correct but he said I had to have the hard copy they send me in the mail and then he wrote me a ticket.

My 2 cents, for what it's worth:

Pick and choose your battles! This doesn't seem to be one I'd waste time with. Throw a copy of your ins. under the seat and move on!
