well, I think there is some merit to having the insurance company mail you an electronic version of your ins card.

That way, when you get a new paper card (that is no doubt in the pile of unopened mail at home) the electronic copy goes right to your phone in electronic fomat in addition to paper.

FTP!!! Id tell them quit being that Krispy Kreeme pulled out of Houston!!

From TexasSure website

What if I don't have my proof of insurance card, and TexasSure verifies my coverage, will I get a ticket?
Each law enforcement agency will set its own policies; however, the law states that you must show proof of insurance. So itís best to keep that card available at all times. Back

I hate to say this....but Im kinda with morvegil. My phone or e-doc should be sufficient. anyone can fake the paper/or e document, but if he needs to (and will anyhow) he can call the ins co and verify my account #.

Then again, its not that big of a deal to carry the paper copy.

I reduce my ins card on the copy machine by 50 to 75%. It ends up being about 2x2 inches.

State police a few months ago wouldn't accept the Progressive POI on my Iphone as proof. In his words it had to be printed. He verified it and didn't say anything beyond that though.

My paper copy from progressive is 8.5x6. My Iphone screen is obviously smaller. Interesting thing though. The font used on the app is bigger than the printed font to make the information more easily readable.

I guess we're stuck until the law catches up to the technology.

Lol. The funny thing is I just looked into the same thing. I would just read the language of the transportation code. I don't live in TX anymore but Louisianas law allows for a "photostatic copy" which I would guess means it cannot be reduced in size. So I just laminated mine and put it in the trunk. PDF copy can't hurt tho just in case.

In reality it is most likely something that should be legal but is questionably because of some ancient wording in the law and will end up needing a "courts interpretation" to say yes or no and/or a law update. I'm sure one of the lawyers on here can chime in better but generally speaking courts have been slow to accept technology. In most instances even if you have insurance and don't have your card if you present it in court it can get thrown out.

One day we want them looking at our phones. Most days we don't. I say they can stay the away from my phone. I will carry a card.
