that is a good question batman

I too would like to know if it is acceptable to have a scanned version in pdf or jpg as "proof."

I think the officer is a tool for telling you that imo. Anyone who can modify an image can press the print button...something to look for...yea right...it's not like they are printed on magnetic paper or anything.

I also thought the LEO could check his system to verify coverage.

What is it that they look for?

Insurance Co. phone number
Policy #
VIN etc...

I know these are a given, but what is it that the cop really looks for?

I call bs on the cops behalf,

before I go on, let me tell you that this is really stupid and retarded - A friend of mine created his own insurance, typed it up and printed it out with his own computer. I was with him several times when he was pulled over, cop would check it out and let him go, or once he was issued a warning for speeding. Either way, there was at least 3 times I know for sure that the cop checked his insurance, but didnt catch the fact that it was phony, and illegally printed. All in the city of Houston, HPD

Doesn't Texas have some kind of insurance database that links either the DL# or plate# to the provider?

Meaning, they shouldn't even have to ask anymore, they can look it up with their 'puters.

Some LEO agencies can look it up, but you're still required to carry proof

So I've heard.

A friend told me that they can verify that you have insurance by checking out your registration.

It is linked in the DMV database.. I just renewed online and just had to provide the bike plate # and my info and it verified the ins.

And does that small piece of paper really put your billfold over the top?? I mean, really?

Lets drop this ship about cops being abe to check insurance on their computers, everybody is required to have a paper copy of valid insurance either on yourself or in the vehicle.

End of discussion.
