Interesting bike crash predicament

Anyone on here a member at WFO Riders?

I had a strange experience with some of them on Saturday.

I want to start off by saying I'm not bashing - maybe it was simple miscommunication - but I was a little distressed.

Apparently about 30 riders (many from WFO Riders forum) were riding the sisters out here in the Hill Co. this weekend. I ran into some of them near the Hunt Store on Saturday afternoon and it reminded me that I had an account on that forum. I cam home and read their ride thread and I posted in it that I lived in the area and that if they needed help (like a truck for an accident for example) to give me a call - and I posted my cell number.

Later on, I get a call from one of their members saying that someone had crashed their bike on 336 and that they needed a truck to come get the bike. I said, "no problem" and got in my truck and started the 40 mile trip out toward Rocksprings where the crash had happened.

The guy who called me said he was far away and that if I could run out there with my truck and ramp that would be a big help. I assumed that he was in his car somewhere else and was doing the calling because I know the cell reception out there is really spotty.

So, I drove the 40 miles and found their large group on the side of the road. The guy who crashed had pretty bad rash and a broken finger but was otherwise fine. I pulled up and introduced myself and asked where we were taking the bike - and was ready to load it up.

Then, one of their guys says that their truck was coming and should be there in a minute - that they didn't need my help. Turns out it was the guy who had called me and asked me to help - he was coming behind me in his truck. Sure enough, he pulls up 5 minutes later and they load up the bike and take off, so I got back in my truck and turned around and drove the 40 miles home.

It didn't really me off but I was kind of miffed about having been asked to drive 80 miles for absolutely no reason when the guy who asked me to drive out there was already in his truck on his way.

Oh well, I got good jerky at Garvin Store.

Agreed. I've also had to pay for being the 'nice guy' more than a handful of times.

I just think about it this way: If I die with the intention of helping others... Im hoping that's enough reason for Peter to let me into Heaven.

yeah, I talked to him VERY briefly. He was on his way there in his truck the whole time. They NEVER needed my help. I have no clue why they wanted me to drive out there at all - it doesn't look like their plan ever changed - they had their own truck on the way the whole time.

that sucks....and next time someone needs a hand you might be reluctant to do so....not a win/win by any means.
