Maybe someone should have schooled him about what it means to pull your gun and not intend on using it.

Provided the story is pretty much along with whats been provided information wise...

The 'kid' should have though about the possible risks before doing what he did.
His 'aunt' and family should have put more thought about what path their mini-thug was taking in life and done something about it before something like this came to pass.

Who's to say what's excessive and what's not? Four shots seems like a good amount to me. I've had to look down the barrel of a gun being told I was about to die. . . if I would have had a firearm and the means to get shots off, the only reason I'd stop at four is because of the gun jamming. Maybe that's why I don't owna gun either. . . might get in trouble putting 9 or 10 rounds in someone.

I can agree, when someone is in teh heat of the moment, im sure that trigger can get pulled multipule times, because all you want to do it put that person severly hurt so they cant come back at you, OR kill them.

I just assume an officer would know where to fire so he could take care of the job in one shot, but maybe he wanted to be nice to the family and give them an open casket

Oh well, 15yrs wasted creating a deliquent, try better next time to make a worthwhile addition to society.

What caliper was the slug?

Less then four times might not have been enough to kill him.

Let him have the car??? You can always go out and get another one?? This lady cannot be serious.. I dont think she knows a value of a car, and granted a life was lost over it, but his dumb initiated the situation. The kid probably was already a **** up prior to this... I have no sympathy for that... They should of beaten his a looooong time ago.

It's the families fault for not keeping track of their kid's wear abouts and for not teaching him to not participate in armed robberies.

As far as 4 shots, if someone has a gun on me, I have and will continue to shoot until I perceive he is no longer a threat, read: able to point the weapon / pull the trigger.

Apparently this was no "rookie" officer, but a 20 some odd year veteran who was pulling courtroom duty, probably to keep himself out of harms way.

While no one likes to see a young life wasted, it was the utterly ignorant response of the "aunt" that got to me.
