Great, now he'll become a rent a cop at a mall and give you citations when your kids are being noisy.

Since officers are citizens and pay all the taxes that others do, do they pay themselves?

Wow that letter was INSANE! Are there really that many citizens who are crying out for help because of obnoxiously loud vehicles? He couldnt find another cause to get behind like drunk driving, illegal immigrants, drug sales/use, human trafficking, gangs? Loud pipes, really? What the .

From the letter HA!

Motorcyclists from the Houston area, as well as motorcyclists from across Texas and around the United States, coalesced to battle my enforcement initiative. My Internal Affairs portfolio, as well as the Internet, provides substantive evidence of the relentless attacks made on my personal and professional life by men and women who have, through their own prideful arrogance and selfishness, placed themselves and their personal interests above the law. As a result of the slanderous attacks upon my personal and professional life by area motorcyclists and unscrupulous members of the local media, combined with a complete lack of support from the upper echelon of the Houston Police Department, Mayor Annise Parker, Houston’s City Council and Houston’s Legal Department, I have been coerced into early retirement. Basically, the City of Houston refused to support my efforts to protect the citizens within my area of responsibility from the unlawful intrusion of illegally loud motor vehicles; motor vehicles which blatantly violate the right of all citizens to enjoy a peaceful environment and domestic tranquility

Interesting letter, and reiterates an issue I have with the way a LOT of laws are written: way too vague. All of the sportbikes he was writing tickets to I'm assuming actually had a muffler, and it was his discretion that they were too loud.

Where he screwed up was continuing to enforce his opinion of what was too loud even after he was told his ear-o-meter was miscalibrated.

Read the letter, this dude really has himself painted as a saint. You'd think he was stopping murders, fights, and A&Bs. The number of times he uses "assault" "protect" and other phrases is baffling. Its NOISE. While it might be illegal, to attempt to paint it in the same light as being hit with a bat is absolutely ludicrous.

He wrote one time, can't remember where, something in the likes that jesus was in his side for what he was doing.

Truly a twisted individual.

First of all, let me say that I agree with you that going after a loud vehicle shouldnt be a priority when compared to other crimes you mentioned. Second, this is in no way a defense for Holtsclaw's decisions when citing people.

BUT, I think people would be surprised how many people do complain about "loud pipes." At my old apt, I would get complaintS about an HD that would "shake the whole complex" when he, or she rode.

My neighbor has made mention about the "loud exhausts" on my bikes and asked me if the pipes were legal. Im sure it was his way of telling me he doesnt appreciate me starting my bikes after an oil change, etc.

So yes, there are people that complain about loud exhausts.

Here's another post from him. It's a "press release" he copied and pasted. It compares excessive noise to being raped.

http://houston.backpage.com/Groups/h...elease/9671847

If this is what the dude really believed I think he needs to actually talk to some real rape victims.

Also in his other posts he often refers to motorcyclists as thugs and seems to believe that we are all criminals. Most of the cops I know personally are through the HD Owners club in Angleton. All good guys. And the "thugs" in that club are also a great bunch. They have no problem letting me ride in their rallies even though I think HD's are under powered, overweight, vibrating, transportation for old fat men.

holy , they actually used the phrase "acoustic terrorism." That's deplorable.
