1) check your speedo cable/speed sensor if there is one. check it at both ends.

2) the the plug/connections at the back of the speedo. be sure its tight.

3) follow that cord back to where it connects to the rest of the wiring harness. check it also.

*keep an eye out for anything that looks melted, cut, worn, burnt, loose, etc.

what kind of speedo is it? is the speed dispayed digitally, or is there a needle?

well check all that other first. a had a freind who's speedo went out. twice. first it was a little plastic gear inside that the speedo cable connected to. the second time something about the needle where it connected to the centerpin broke.

do you know anyone with the same bike as you?

if so slap your speedo on their bike. if it works, the problem is in your bike, if it doesnt then something in the speedo is messed up, or its just the connection.

^ there ya go! if the light for the speedo is also out, then it has to be related, its gotta be electrical. must be something burnt, loose, melted shorted or whatver somewhere. my advice just take your time and inspect everything very carefully. or grab another speedo off of ebay if you can find one cheap enough. hopefully that would fix it.
