Go and visit some animals shelters in the area and look at the dogs they have. If it is not a surprise, take her with you.

Shelter doggies make the best and I haven't met a girl yet that could go to a shelter and go home without one.

I got my (now ex-) GF a "puggle". It was a pug/beagle "designer breed". It was bred that way on purpose. The pug supposedly takes the bark outta the beagle, and the beagle takes the breathing problems and shedding outta the pug.
All in all it was a "cute" and well tempered dog. Her's just needs an owner with an IQ higher than the dog.

Just make sure you don't get her a dog from one of the people selling their poor pups on the side of the road. First of all, most are just terrible breeders and second, a lot of those doggies get sick too. A lady I know just got a Great Dane puppy and it got parvo and almost died. $700 later in vet bills, she now has a healthy puppie, he was very lucky.

I can't stress enough, get a doggie from a rescue or shelter. There are more than enough out there that need a good home.

FYI, any dog will get parvo if it lives in a unclean place, namely, a plce that has rats nearby, but if you keep the pup away from them and give the first parvo shot at six weeks of age, the pup will grow healty. I breed labs, and to of them so far have died because the owners do not give them their shots.

I got my first puppy from a shelter and it got parvo, parvo is everywhere, in the grass, dirt, and it stays there! Any puppy can get parvo if it doesnt have its shots and happens to go somewhere parvo is. The vet told us that its really easy for the dogs to get in a pound/shelter and really easy to get if you take a your puppy to the beach or to the park.

True. You should never take your puppy anywhere until it has its set of shots.

My friend actually got the dog and it got sick the next day. Actually, her hubby had gotten it because it looked so sad but he was probably already sick. :eh:
