Here in Arlington, a jailer is NOT a police officer. Typically, that information is public so just search the various City sites. I think in Arlington, the starting salary is $45+. We require a 4-year degree.

To my understanding, officers are making decent pay now days. Of course, one must weigh the options of risking your life with a pay check. Plus, dealing with all the BS that goes on.

HPD says you can make up to $47k with a degree and being bilingual. Cadets earn $1,160.00 bi-weekly when they are in the academy. the civil service test is in January but you need to be registered ASAP. ive been thinking of doing it it o dont find a new job soon.

unless you go to a larger department, where they pay for your training and testing, you are required to have already take your TCLEOSE. constables, sherrifs, and other small PD dont do that =(

I wouldn't go off pay scale too much. You have what they publish and what you actually make. You have to consider extra jobs and OT. I don't know many officers that don't do either. I have a degree in the IT field and wouldn't go back to a corporate job. Remember a good extra job can net you an additional 20-30k year.

MotoCop would be a good job. They have to take a two week brutal rider's course.

+1 on that. Im scared to see what I will owe this year. All of mine are 1099.

I dunno about being a solo unit. Riding all year long on Houston freeways with a skid lid and gloves doesn't excite me very much. They are paid handsomely for for that inconvenience though.
