Not to be a but your buddy and/or relatives are trying to rape you in the multiple times if they are asking for 4k to repair the bike.

If it is a matter of replacing the engine/transmision, you can get used engines for less than 1k. Get a friend or a mechanic, I know one I can recommend you, to drop the messed up engine and put the "new" one in. that should cost you about 300 bucks more. That is about 1,300 to get it fixed, certainly not 4k.

Thats was to get a quote and figure out what was wrong with it, we would def not get the work done there. We wanted to get a quote for possible legal reasons so need to go to a dealership for that.

if you are going to repair the same motor you have there then it will cost an arm and a leg for sure.. thats why must people just get a used motor and get the job done right there in there for lest then $1200 bucks.

this is why I love riding bikes.... if it breaks then its way cheeper to fix it then if I had some sport car like Subaru STI or BMW 335 or something.. lol

1st you need to know what you really want to do?
do you want to go after this guy? or do you want a second opinion?
do you wanna spend the money to fix this bike and get on the road?
there are lots of us here that will help you out, doesn't matter we dont know you (yet) but if you would like a second opinion then we are all here to help.. I would go ride all the way up there to just see what she sounds like.. to me it doesn't matter.

like I said.. I would have my buddy that works at a yamaha shop could look at it and see what he thinks.

I would love to hear her run..

Yeah, I should have taken a video before she was taken apart. I need to do some research to figure out what I want to do, since it is already taken apart too.

I'm just trying to keep this from happening to another buyer...but it will

1. Unless you absolutely know what you're doing, have a professional check out the used bike first
2. Have the seller put in writing what he claims the condition of the bike is
3. Ask the seller to guarantee the bike for a certain period of time and get that in writing.

This is your problem.

The guy can simply say that he asked $4100, but then found out something was wrong with the bike and you agreed on $1500 due to repairs.

Next time, take the bike to a reputable dealer for a checkout and test ride the bike.

Good luck.

Dont do that you have all the help you need right here! Many people telling you how to fix it and offering to do it at a reduced rate. Its a lesson learned but obviously you can come out of this with a bike and probably even meet some folks to ride with also.

Take it to Motorcycles Unlimited and ask them to look it over. It may be something simple.
