help a moron on here....

What makes a "race ready" 250cc worth $30,000 ? I'll make a guess it's much lighter weight and a more race tuned engine/ trans. than a typical $5,000 street 250cc, but wouldn't a basic street 600cc super sport be quicker around a track ??

Well Freddie Spencer won the 250cc and 500cc (MotoGP) Grand Prix World Championships in the same year at the age of 24

1. The materials make it that expensive and it only weighs 185 pounds
2. You can't race a 600cc bike in the new Moto3 class

Depends on the track. That bike probably has some SICK corner speed.

Kinda funny how they don't list bore/stroke on the MD250, nor the weight on the spec sheet, but they do on the NSR250..
Wonder how closely matched they actually are.
Answers to your question (from another website):
Bore/Stroke => 78.0 x 52.2mm
Hp => 32.6 hp
Weight => 194 lbs
MD vs NSF => NSF>MD; not even remotely close

I absolutely LOVE my MD250H! It's incredibly well-made (Moriwaki)!
It's a great learning tool (more than my NSF100) and the corner speed is ridiculous. Still/always learning on it.
Scott (from Motorcycles Unlimited) can confirm. Anytime you're ready for testride, Tom, let me know.

MSRH, my time is 2:07 (remember 250cc; still learning how to ride it).
I refuse to take it to TWS (Texas World Speedway).

They're bigger than you think (that's what she said).
For reference, I'm old, 5'5', and 120lbs.

Also, having a bike few have....priceless!
Honda has a great contingency program in USGPRU. I may do a round or two next year.

Depending on availability in 2013, I may upgrade to the NSF250R.
