What's better: chain or U-lock?

I'm getting a kryptonite lock to lock my bike to those bicycle anchors they have at the campus. My K. U-lock doesn't reach it so I need a chain or a longer u lock. I don't trust disc locks because thieves can just pick up the bike and throw it in a minivan. Which is better?

thanks!

On another note, read this review of locks. Hope it helps.

I'd go with the first one.
As already stated the best deal is theft insurance but in lieu of that the chain / lock set up will make some thieves look for easier prey.
BTW, I keep a TiMax set up for sale here at the shop and it works well.
I haven't been able to make a dent in the chain with 6' bolt cutters.

Which ever lock is cheaper, cause your going to be that much more when they break your expensive lock.
