Knocking

Hi there, have a problem that started today during lunch. Bike is a 2001 zx7r with 32k miles. I've never had a problem until now. Bike started to knock/shake during acceleration. Don't think its the motor because with clutch held in, I can rev it without no problem. During 1st and 2nd gear the knock is loud and hard, regardless of how smooth the acceleration is. Once I get to 3rd and up, the knock is not as hard/loud, but you can still feel/hear it. Also as long as I don't accelerate to fast, it won't do it. Any ideas of what it may be. Need bike for main transportation for work. Sucks, because I was ready to ride tomorrow to G-town from PP1's 10am ride. Thanks for any/all help too.

The earlier the better, if something that simple, hopefully still make the ride. Going to go outside to check the teeth and see how much slack their is in the chain, post in a minute.

Their is alot of slack in the chain. I can move it up and down almost 2inches. The rear sprocket looks like maybe the teeth are alittle worn down and maybe slipping some when under pressure. I do have a rear stand, is it easy to tighten the chain or do I need to go to a dealer?

if the teeth are too worn i woulnd't ride if the chain slips off at high speed you could be in serious trouble. if it just needs to be tightenen then just tighten. remember to loosen the axle nut first. before oyu start messing wihtthe adjusters.

Do you know if a gsxr-1000 sprocket would fit on his bike?

I'm not sure what the difference would be for different sprockets/bikes..

Ok, need to replace the rear sprocket, can someone explain to me the difference between a 520, 525 and 530 setup. The Kawi dealer I stopped by to see a rear sprocket said that my bike is stock with a 525 which is a unusual size. They said that most bikes now come with 520. They recommend a 530 setup so that if later I wanted to change sprockets for stunt or quicker acceleration, the 530 can handle it. What the are they talking about?

you need to see what kind of chain you got on there. it comes with a 530 i think if the previous owner put a 520 on it you have to get a 520 sprocket and vice versa.
