Cell phone mounts!

So I'm getting a bike with an actual handlebar (ie not clip ons) which will have room to hold a cell phone mount, and I was wondering what mounts folks on here use.

I have a LG G2x, and this is the most promising (and really the only one) so far:
http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=46935

Anyone got one of these?

Also, I'd need a USB power source for the phone too, what do you guys use for that?

That one looks good except that it doesn't seem to allow any waterproofing case for the phone. I may take you up on it though and just put a ziploc bag over it.. Let me get back to you!

Simply slide the assembly into the hole of the stem and tighten the machine screw to create a tight fit. This part is designed to fit into the cylindrical bore wall of fork stems and will work with stems that measure from 12-28mm or .5” – 1.10” at the following intervals:

Metric Standard
12mm .5”
14mm .55”
16mm .63”
18mm .71”
20mm .79”
28mm 1.10”
pretty sure it would fit, but I would measure to be safe.

OP I actually have the same exact "Universal Phone Mount" that you posted that I use on my Nexus S...bought it on EBay for $10. Its a bit clunky and the plastic causes glare but otherwise, its good...great for being waterproof and you can put other things inside of it as well. The zipper is poor quality so just a heads up...zipping around the corners, it sometimes gets stuck.

I also had a Nexus One-specific mount that I also bought off of Ebay for $5 a while back. I still have it if anyone wants to buy it

Phone mounts, in general, are great especially for navigation. The only issue I have is my phone will swith back and forth between landscape and portrait when cornering ...thats an Android issue though (2.1 on my Nexus One allowed me to lock it in 1 position but 2.3 on my Nexus S doesn't)

BE CAREFUL THOUGH...I lost my $600 Nexus One while riding because I neglected to snap it into the mount fully. That was a costly mistake

As for power, I bought a USB power supply for $25 off a guy on ADVrider.com that was doing group buys. Its great because it's .5volts and has a self-resetting fuse...just plug it into the battery and you are good to go. The only issue I have with it is that it stops charging my phone after a few minutes, but I think this is either an issue with my phone or the way I wired it? Not sure...I don't use it much but I mounted it on my handlebar to recharge my GoPro, phone, iPod, etc. Being only 1/2 a volt, you could probably get away with charging things for a while, say while eating, with the bike off and not drain the battery on the bike too much.

I ended up ordering the same setup Ormand has, I need to pick up some plastic connectors and then I'm going to install everything.

Got it all wired up today. Ended up wiring up a relay switched by the license plate light so that it only comes on when the bike is running. All the wiring is zip tied up and all the connections are properly crimped or soldered and everything is protected by heatshrink tubing too. The power socket is zip tied to an unused clip on mount - the bike has bars but the previous owner installed clip ons and decided he didn't want them. Presumably he left the mounts on because to take them off you need to slide the forks out of the top triple. Either way it really doesn't look bad and works great though I will figure out how to mount it more solidly in the future.

The arkon mount is much better quality than I expected! The touchscreen works through the plastic too which is neat, but I need to pick up some conductive thread to sow into the finger tips of all my gloves as I couldn't get it working through them.

Its a pretty sweet setup I think, I just need to get a shorter USB cable so it doesnt flap around everywhere and I'm set!

2011 Bikemaster 12V 15A Power Adapter Center

ive ordered a couple of these for customers in the past. its got three cig adaptors, and one USB. the cool thing about it, is that it uses the same plug as a battery tender. if you allready have a battery tender setup, installation takes like 15 seconds. only downside IMO is that it would be more useful with 2 cigs slots, and 2 or even 3 USB's...but that is pretty minor i think. made by BIkemaster, so you can order it out of the Tucker Rocky book from anyone that is a TR dealer.

The USB link I posted above also accepts Battery Tender connectors, PowerPoints or stripped wire. I bought it over a cigarette charger because its the size of a 9 volt battery and not chunky. Also, no need for the cigarette connector at all...atleast for me, everything I need is either USB powered or direct wired (radar detector).

Same here...I have a lot of micro/mini USB wires but I wanted something not only shorter but also with a right angle connector so I didn't have to have a 1" hard wire sticking out of the cell phone mount. With a right angle, it sits more flust with the entire mount setup....I bought it on Ebay for $2 lol
