Beautiful! But if they allow that thing to race in WSBK I'll have to lump Ducati into the same class (maybe a half-notch higher) than Buell.

The guy that owns that bike owns a Ducati WSBK team. He bought a Ducati 749 frame and put a 999 motor and bored it to 1200. It makes something like 180hp, around there.

Well i hate to break it to you but its gonna happen. The new ducati superbike is going to come in two sizes. The first release in 2008 is going to be a 1098cc which is going to come in the standerd model and the "S" model. Then "R" model is sopposed to come out the fallowing year and is going to be 1198cc. Going to have a single sided swing arm again and 996/8 style headlights. This is all rumors though, but we should find out the hard fact later this month.

I know they are going to produce it which is fine... but is it going to be allowed in WSBK? Haven't seen an official announcement yet.

My guess would be, there is too much money involved for them NOT to allow it. IMHO:eh:

But it's not up to Ducati, it's up to the FIM (or whoever the WSBK rulemakers are) Ducati claims they need 1200cc's to remain competitive against the inline 4 1k's. I call BS, they are already allowed more mods than the 1k's and they won the compionship. I think they just want WSBK to go back to being the all Ducati championship.

Agreed it's not up to Ducati, but I was talking about advertising dollars and the like. I think from a pure HP standpoint, they are about at the limit with what they have now (Ducati)?

I think that they will be approved. They may put some limits but they are probably testing them already. There is too much money involved as Brutus mentioned.

I've heard that mentioned a few times. I dunno. Even if it's true, me still thinketh, tough cookies to them. I've never agreed with giving anyone a displacement advantage. Note: they didn't get a displacement advantage in MotoGP so they developed some tech that could compete. A V4 that was a screamer at first, but then re-worked into a big-bang (they called it twin pulse) configuration. They should use that engine in their next bike and have it homologated for WSBK use. I think they are back to screamer mode on the MotoGP v4 for 2k7. :icon_bigg

Well in looking at it from the street bike side of things, if you compare the Ducati to the I4's there is a 20-30 hp advantage that the I4's enjoy.
Tires and chassis and rider will only go so far............:laughing6
