10 seconds away from my bike being stolen

Long story short, I bought an 08 cbr1000rr last sunday... Went to help my cousin move into his new apartment today and I caught 2 guys scoping out my bike. I walked up to them and they ran off, the bike was already on and the last step was for them to break the handlebar lock.. this happened at 2pm in a nice gated apartment complex.

I didn't know they were trying to steal it until I got up to the bike and saw it was on.

Never mind they still had to brake the handle bar lock. How'd they start it?
