800cc Test Times From Valencia

Ignore the first 3 'cuz they were done on 990cc bikes.

wow! they lose almost 20% of their engine capacity and lap times go up less than a second. They should just make them all 50cc machines, they'd still turn 1:38's :icon_bigg

400cc is a nice end point. Small enough to lower over all times nicely but big enough to still encourage mechanical innovation.

There's a clip from yesterday on MotoGP.com. Not sure if it's been posted on youtube or google vids yet.

D'antin Pramac Ducati also switched and Konica Minolta w/ Shinya Nakano. Too bad they didn't switch while they still had Tamada.. Dude won 2 races with Honda/Bridgestone. :BangHead:

What I think is ironic is that because of the displacement restrictions, the bikes are slower in the straights... but bikes aren't inherently unstable in the straights! It's the corners where the accidents occur. I've read several accounts where the riders are saying the new 800cc bikes carry quite a bit more corner speed. So much so, that the tire manufacturers are having to create all new tires with new profiles that provide more lean angle and grip on the edge.

So... did they truly make the bikes safer by reducing their engine capacity? I think not. :icon_bigg
