Buckshot in Anderson burned down-pics, bike broke down too

Around 4pm on Sunday my roomie and I decided to go for a ride up to Yankees since he had never been. He took the Kawi and I rode the Hardley. It was pretty uneventful until we were heading back from joint. On 244 we noticed black smoke off in the distance. I thought this can’t be good with the drought.

This is Buck shot in Anderson or what is left of it. The local drunks who were outside still drinking in the ditch said it started underneath the floor. Not sure if they meant on the patio, they think maybe a cig hit the grass. I just hope those guys had insurance!!!

After the country cop screams at us to move while threatening to take us to jail if we don’t the roomie is unable to start the kawi. I was shocked since it’s usually the Hardley that gives me . We walked the bike back about a hundred feet . It appears the fuel pump/filter was the problem. No fuel at all, engine would turn over but nothing more. An off duty Grimes County officer by the name of Payne rolled by in his big diesel truck and asked if we needed help. He stayed with us for almost two hours while I was messing with the bike. Let us use his tools and kept a flash light over the bike while I attempted being a mechanic. I pulled the tank and took out the fuel pump, put it back in threw the tank on and it started. Stupid me turned it off to bolt the tank down tight and put the seat on. Of course it would not start again. After another attempt I ripped the filter off and we were good to go. We made it all the way down 1744 to 105, then down 105 up to April Sound and 105 where it finally gave up for good. This is where it gets funny. Ended up riding home on the hardley to get the burb… threw it in the back and went home. What turned into a simple cruise up to Carlos and back turned into a tiring and funny adventure. I think it’s time I get a trailer hitch put on and get a trailer. Also Thanks a million to Officer Payne who helped and also followed us all the way to 105 to be sure we got that far 

one thing that cracks me up is after i get home and share the pic with a few "friends" on facebook i get the typical responses "oh you shoulda called". I have called in the past and no one came to help. that line gets kinda old and makes me laugh. not at all expecting something from them just pointing it out.

One guy who is my girlfriends bro in law did meet up with me and give me some tools and offered a tow but we thought we could make it. He felt bad he didnt insist on following, that guy is getting a couple of pitchers on me tonight at dinner!!! it's his birthday and plan to put a bow on the socket and ratchet he lent me haha

after this experience I plan to get AAA for towing. I've been stranded in the city and it wasnt a problem, it's unsettling when I'm way outside of the city and something happens

Glad you got everything taken care of and can still laugh about it.

Doublecheck the AAA, they didn't use to tow bikes unless you had platinum service.

You might want to look at joining the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) which at one time had free towing with membership.

It was a long and eventful evening. Had some good laughs. At the time had no idea of all the fires in the area. Scary
