Gear ?'s - Dainese jacket/Tecnik gloves

I am new to the motorcycle workd, and thinking about getting a Dainese Zen jacket and Tecnik Speedstar gloves. What are people's take on these? Anyone run with these? Anyone go down in either of these? How'd they hold up?

Also, can anyone compare the Dainese to Feildsheer jackets? Fit? Id like to try on a Feildsheer but cant find anything local.

TIA

have you tried Cycle Gear, they used to carry both in store. Anyhow Dainese is a great brand, I have owned one of their jackets and currently ride in a pair of their boots.

I tried on the Dainese jacket at cycle gear last night, but can't find Feildsheer (need to look harder). The Dainese jacket felt pretty good and fit well, but I want to know what else I can consider. I tried on Alpinestars TZ-1, but the Dainese fit a lot better, and the armor placement was more comfortable to me.

Well like anything else you get what you pay for, there are lots of good jackets and brands other than Dainese, but lots dont fit me right, I have tried Frank thomas but they dont hold up as well, the stiching seems to come apart on parts that take alot of abuse like wear my gloves rub..... but i tried on a Fieldsheer at cyclegear in Sharpstown so they should have them there....anyway comfort and fit are the main points to look for, after that look the jacket over to see if it looks well made, hence the stiching.

thanks for the replies so far. I'm leaning towards the Dainese Zen.

Heard anything about Setup boots (looking at the Visions). I tried on the Alpinestar SMX Plus at CG, but I may go for something a little less race oriented. Will the vision provide a similar amount of protection?

Get whatever is in your budget. Anything is better then nothing. One thing to consider when buying gear is that it gets real hot in Houston.

Dainese is a great brand, so is Fieldsheer from what I hear. I like Icon, they might not be what youd go road racing in, but for day to day riding they work pretty well and if you stay away from their over the top $600 jackets, you can get a really good textile jacket for cheap.
Dont get fixated on leather, its obviously the best for going down, but textile is more comfy, usually lighter and can get wet and all that junk.

stay away from icon helmets though. .

I will be getting a textile/mesh jacket for summer. But it makes sense to get a leather for now. I may decide I am comfortable in the leather without the liner in summer....who knows. But leather definitely for my first jacket.

joe rocket makes some really nice ventilated jackets. I got the Riot for $120 of ebay(brand new) and couldnt be happier. Its basically a mesh shell with shoulder, and elbow armor on the outside and it even has a back protector of sorts. Great when it gets steamy, without it I would be way too tempted to ride without a jacket.

ICON=junk

Joe R > ICON and thats not giving JR alot of credit either.

stick w/ the dainese, also look into Spidi, nobody carries it in town that i know of, but they make good stuff also.

www.newenough.com

look into vansons on par w/ Dainese. NW honda stocks Vansons also. and Sidi (they make setup boots) www.motonation.com dist. for both.

i have a textile dainese jacket, went down in it, not a scratch on me. still wear it, cosmetic damage

I agree that Dainese and Vanson are the pretty much the best out there, but not all of us can shovel that kinda $$ out. I wish though.

Plus, Ive been down in an Icon jacket and it saved me some skin, so while it might not be the best on the market, its certainly not "junk."
wearing a high school lettermans jacket would = junk.
