Tomorrow is 85 MPH day !!!

Tomorrow is "85 mph day" in Texas
Today, the top speed limit in the country is 80 mph. By tomorrow, September 1, 2011, the Texas Legislature will have upped the state's maximum speed limit to 85 miles per hour, faster than any other state in the nation.

We're not sure yet which of the many rural highways in Texas will be posted at 85. The Texas Department of Transportation has yet to decide. Prospective roadways must first must pass safety and structural integrity tests.

But when it does? Whoo-wee!

So 85 plus a few mph grace and we could be cruising 90 with no worries of radar?

I like it.

Nice. Unfortunately the raised limit will probably be in the middle of nowhere.

what do you mean unfortunately? I-10 cannot support that kind of speed around houston. it is the boon-docks that need that speed cause there is literally miles of nothing out west.

I thought the practical speed limit for I-10 was 85. I figured the lege was just getting with the program.

Wrong...technically Montana has no set speed limits on highways....they do post a suggested safe speed and will issue you a ticket if they deem your speed to be considered unsafe for conditions, type of vehicle etc.

wrong... montana used to have no spped limit, but the gov't threatened to pull funding if they didn't impose something of a limit. so they had to post.

Not good that the cagers will be going faster, now I'll have to cruse at 90, or 95 to keep ahead of traffic.

That is correct...but then they had more accidents once posting and enforcing speed limits than previous yrs so they dropped the limits again and left the signs up as a suggested safe speed...
