Thumbs down My Wreck Sunday

Hi guys,

Well some of you may know. I went down Sunday around 2:30p

The story.... HOT..... No seriously, I was headed in from a decent ride. I was on E.Mt Houston rd and Furray Dr. The light changed green I was 3rd in line. The 2 cars in front of me was traveling around 25 in a 35.

I processed to see there was no oncoming traffic and the raod was stripped meaning I could pass here. I hit my signal and hit the bright lights. I pass the first car fine but as I am about to pass the second car , with out a blinker or anything they take a hard left into a driveway.

I braked and pulled right trying to avoid them... No such luck. I hit the right rear bumper and highsided. My bike then slid and rolled around 30' I proceeded to slide around 50'

I got up and did a fast body check to notice a very nasty cut on my left arm. I immediately made my way off the road covering the wound to stop the bleeding. I did not have my jacket on, so please go ahead with the squid comments I deserve them.
Some very kind people stopped to check on me. I was almost blacked out. When they asked If I was ok. I said no. I did not get a ticket and as far as I know neither did the lady. I dont know maybe I will get one in the mail. I cant say I was at total fault as I was passing legally, but I feel that I was to and extent. Maybe someone here can enlighten me on that.
They called an ambulance. Fire truck arrived and they tended to me for a few minutes till the ambulance arrived. 30 minutes later I was in Ben Taub with all of my clothing being cut off me. 14 hours later I was able to come home.

Injury. Broken foot. although it should heal on its own. No cast and no issues walking.

32 stitches in left arm. Pics if you want. Not really much road rash just on elbows.

Bike I think is totaled this time. :(

At the request of my daughter I will be taking at least 6months to 1 year before I ride again. This scared her enough to scare me. I will still be talking to all of you and have made and will continue to make good friends here.

Special thanks to Squodbody for chearing me up the last few days I have been basically bed ridden with Princess Vicotin.

Oh and to sum it up the Lady I hit is trying to tell my inurance that I pushed her into a gate that 15' off the road so she can get her front end repaired.. When they loaded me into the Ambulance she was still parked in the road. Lying woman.

Oh and yeah I have had my MSF. I would like to say that due to that course I was able to maintain composure and react in the best ways I believe. I was alert as I was sliding on the ground and was trying to use my gloves and pants and shoes to keep most of my body off the ground. I think this helped some in minimal body damage to me.

Don't you hate it when people lie through their teeth like that trying to get something for free?

P.S. Yes, you're at fault. Even though it was legal for you to pass, it is up to you to do so safely.

Glad that you're OK! Police on the scene probably made notes/sketch of the position of the vehicles and the fact that hers was still on the roadway and not near the gate. If anyone got a ticket, it should have been her for failing to signal. I wouldn't sweat that part of it. Kids are wonderful things, and I have two daughters of my own. I respect your decision to lay out for a while and help set her mind at ease. She obviously thinks a lot of you. I cracked some metataursals in my left foot at a track day about 11 years ago. They heal pretty well. Good luck with it all.

I bet that gate she hit, came out of nowhere.

But yeah, these kind of people grind my gears. Someone is always trying to get something free, what sucks is watching them get it, and get away with it.

Always gotta be very careful overtaking on two lane roads... Man you were very lucky...

I think there is still room for argument here on who's at fault, if anyone... The law allows you to pass as long as it is safe on your end... By implication, other drivers have to cut the yellow dashed line to turn in a safe manner, too... Idk if that is legit, but just trying to offer you another angle.

GL not getting sued by this

lets see

its his responsibility to make a safe pass
he's riding on the wrong side of the road
he's most likely speeding above the speed limit to pass

should the other driver have to stop to make sure he passes before turning.......

quit making excuses.

Sounds similar to how Yankee died. Glad you're still able to write about it. Live and learn, don't beat yourself up over it, Ed clearly wants to do that for you.

Matt, I'm glad you didn't end up dead.

As for certain "know it all" responses, geez, give it a rest.

RacerX dont bother me lol... but just fyi. I never exceeded the speed limit. There was no oncoming traffice for at least a mile ahead.

And nope not going to beat myself up.. It happened. now to get healed and get on with my life. The Full coverage insurance was there for a reason.

Side note I believe the lady had a suspended lic. But it is what it is.
