There is still a need for a helpful list. I wrote one before, but it was banned to the man cave (W T F?). So this is try 2.

Primer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With thanks to all of the contributors.

DEFINITIONS (1 of 2):

AMA: American Motorcyclist Association

ATGATT: acronym for wearing "All The Gear All The Time". Wearing motorcycle specific protective equipment whenever riding as accidents are rarely (ever?) planned occurrences.

AVI: abbreviation of Avatar. The picture under a posters screen name.

Backing it in: A move brought from dirt-track racing where a rider approaching a corner brakes hard and causes the rear of the motorcycle to slide while countersteering. This enables the rider to quickly go through the corner and straighten up for a fast exit.

Binned it: A rider crashes out of a race, wrecking the bike.

Bottom out: The Suspension runs out of room to travel and hits the internal stops.

Brake marker: A marker at the side of the track indicating where a rider may want to start braking prior to entering a corner

Burnout: Rider applies the front brake and quickly applies the throttle causing the rear wheel to lose traction and spin so that the tire overheats and begins to smoke and disintegrate.

Cage (n. vehicle): a vehicle that is enclosed and designed to protect the occupants and limit their interaction with the elements(e.g. Car, Truck, Semi, etc.). The sensory deprivation of cages contribute to many our our desires to be on motorycycles. "I hate it when i have to take the cage to work"

Caging (v.): driving in a vehicle fitting the description of Cage.

Cage, Stupid Cage, Cager (n. person): someone driving a vehicle that is enclosed (e.g. Car, Truck, Semi, etc.). Having a cage around. The bane of all motorcyclists as they have a tendency of running our soft pink butts over/off the road. Cages in their natural state are found to text or talk on Cellular phones, eat, put on makeup, read newspapers or perform a multitude of other activities that negatively impacts their ability to drive.

CB, CBR: City Bike Racer. Honda sport street bike with the racer being the sport version. Sometimes said to be Cross Beam Racer, or just a non-sense nomenclature scheme from Japan. A hotly debated topic in some circles so just avoid the drama.

Chicane: A section of track with back to back turns or "S" curves.

chicken strips: strips of unused rubber on the sides of your tires. motorcycle has not be leaned far enough over to scrub the new rubber off.
sentence: his rear has enough chicken strips to feed a family of 4

Class: A classification given to a specific kind of road racing. Motorcycles of different displacement and/or allowable modifications are grouped to increase competitiveness and allow a more level playing field.

Contact patch: The area of the tire's tread that is in actual contact with the ground.

Curb Monkey: Young, impressionable (hopefully scantily dressed) females who hang around trying to get rides on the back of motorcycles. Also can be the girlfriend of a motorcycle rider. Him in full riding gear, her in a tank top with her thong hanging out the back of her jeans. originates from the expression 'having a monkey on your back'. There is an entire post dedicated to the classes of these monkeys so use the search.

Displacement: Size of an engine, generally expressed in cubic centimeters (cc) for motorcycles.

Donor Cycle: Term used by medical staff referring to what we ride (also refer to Organ Donor for rider)

Doughnut: Rider performs a burnout and carefully moves the motorcycle to encompass a 360-degree circle, leaving a circular mark of rubber on the track. Or a wonderful gift from the gods composed of a heavenly light batter deepfried in oil and sometime topped with icing. Not recommended to do a donut at a pervayor of these commodities as LEOs are purported to frequent such establishments (I keed, I keed).

Dry race: A race in which climatic conditions affecting the track surface are considered to be dry, opposed to wet.

Dump the clutch: A rider quickly releases the clutch while the engine revolutions are high.

Dzus: A fastener used commonly on race body work for easy removal.

ECR: Eagles Canyon raceway located NW of Denton close to Slidell TX

Endo: Half of end over end (well almost half). Where the front brake is applied to lift the rear wheel off the ground. Not to be confused with The bottom tips of the marijuana plant that accumulate the most resin and crystals after being hung to dry (don't ask me how I know this).

Fairing: Body part that protects both the bike and rider from wind and aids aerodynamics. Typically damaged during even the most gentle of crashes and leads many insurers to charge full fairing motorcycles more than "naked" motorcycles.

Fiddy: any motorcycle whose displacement was 50cc from the manufacturer. Used to stunt, race and generally have more fun at lower speeds then should be legal.

FIM: Fédération Internationale de Motorcyclisme, the international governing body of all motorcycle sport at the world level. The FIM is based in Mies, Switzerland.

FTL: for the loss.

FTW: for the win.

FTMFW: Do I really need to explain?

GL: Is an engine configuration where the cylindars are oposed to each other. Such as the BMW boxer engine. I didn't find the actual G and L words.

Gixxer, GSX, GSXR: Grand Sport experimental / Racing. Suzuki motorcycle/sportbike. Gixxer is the slang term.

Going in too hot: used in multiple circles, but is a common mistake for rookie bikers and has killed more people than Duke Nukem would have in real life. It is riding too fast into a corner for the riders capabilities. Often the rider will panic and grab the brake or target fixates and momentum carries the rider and bike off the road. Suprisingly an experienced biker with the same bike and same speed can "commit" to the curve and follow it around without issue. Be careful noob.

Green track: A new track with little or no rubber laid down, which can be slippery.

Grid: A pattern marking the starting points on the track.

GSS: Grand Sport Speedway located in Hitchcock, TX

H.A.K. Humble, Atascocita, Kingwood. A regular get together posted in the event section.

Hairpin: A very slow, sharp and U-shaped corner.

Hand signals: Visual hand gestures to communicate while riding (see appendix A).

Highside: A crash resulting from temporary loss of traction and then gaining traction again causing the bike to flip. There are many causes for a highside. (In a left hand turn, the rider's right side of the bike will contact the road surface first, typically)

Hydroplaning: The accumulation of water in a film under the tire contact patch that causes a tire to lift from the road surface, losing traction. Hydroplaning is affected by vehicle speed, tread pattern and water depth.

IBTL: "In Before The Lock": An abbreviation posted to a thread on a web-based forum when the poster knows that any rational debate has long since been abandoned, and will shortly be locked by the forum administrator. On MH it has been deemed inappropriate and subject to sanction to post this. This is not always inforced, but you may not be lucky.

iirc- if i remember correctly

Hit control "f" and type in the word you are looking for;

"FTW: for the win.

FTMFW: Do I really need to explain?"

As for OMGWTFBBQ. It was mentioned in my previous thread, but no one could tell me why include BBQ. So I left it out.

As for to Mouth I see no reason to include this in a newb primer as it is not really used often on this forum.

Cheers and thanks for the suggestions.

205, alternate form of "REPOST" as in "That's so 205". Something that has been done before to the point of boredom. A been there done that attitude.
