If they re-air it, watch the xr1200 race at indy!

I had a bit of time to kill this afternoon so I tuned in to speedTV. They were showing the vance and hines xr1200 ama series, and despite my initial reservations it was a good race to watch!

Yes, the bikes are big and slow with 5-speed transmissions. Yes, the maximum lean angle is roughly 40 degrees. Yes, the top speed is probably 130.

The final ten laps make up for all that. A five way battle for the podium on virtually identical bikes is a thing to watch. , the last lap was more exciting than the motogp race. Take those five racers, mix in a battle for drafting position, two crashes, and add a surprise win.

It was worth watching.

I watched the race. You described it pretty well! The HD's just look so ungainly running around the track!

In the early 90's the AMA had the Sportster 883 series... even slower and funnier to watch... but still good, close racing.

Thanks for the heads up on this race...I had it DVRd, but probably wouldn't have gotten around to watch it. Yes, ungainly & slow on the track compared to MotoGP or SBK, but more fun to watch than Stoner running away from the field in clear air at Indy (& most everywhere else this year) imo.
