Bike stolen in 30 seconds!

I heard a lot about bike thieves and I know all it takes to jack a bike is a stolen minivan and 2 little to lift it, in broad daylight like in this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D96QM-lzLM8

So I keep my bike in a storage facility and only leave it in front of restaurants where I can see it (like starbucks or Layal etc.)

Do you guys ever ride to places and leave the bike for like an hour? What are the chances of it getting stolen in an hour or two?

In Houston, chances are pretty good with a newer sports bike.
Best chance is get lojack or ride a of a bike that nobody would want.

R but i always have my bike garaged and when im out, i have it in sight. Get theft coverage if youre scared... newer bikes are a hot target. bikes get stolen easily..

ALWAYS a good time for this video.
Realistic reminder for all those that never think it will happen to them.

They're out there. Guard your if you value it.

I leave mine outside at work. We have surveillance but that doesn't mean nowadays. I use a disc lock and park next to our building. Closest you can get is about 20 feet with a car. Figure 2 carrying an R1 across a parking area will hopefully draw some attention. Worst comes to worst, I have full coverage.

Garages aren't safe either. If they have windows or are left open your bike can be scouted, and they are easy to open unless they are locked on the inside.

If a thief wants your bike, chance are he will get it. Every extra effort diminishes the thief's wants though.

I am also using the 'Nobody wants the bike I have approach'

I don't take precautions anywhere really, I hardly even use the steering lock, they'll just break it anyway. If it does happen, that's what insurance is for.

My SV was a recovered theft with a salvage certificate when I bought it. Whoever stole it pried the gas cap off (I'm guessing to put gas in it... they must have been riding it for a bit), tore apart the ignition to start it, and it had some scrapes on both sides like it was thrown into a truck or something.

Rael hit the nail on the head. You won't stop a smart thief if he REALLY wants your bike.

As as it sounds, the goal is to convince a thief that 'the other bike' is an easier target.
