Talking Forest Gnome Ride 8.21.11

Forest Ride through the National Forest including 3090 w adequate stops for rest, gas and a lunch stop at Yankees Tavern in Carlos, TX.

Sunday the 21st of August

PP69(NW corner of i45/242 Shell/McD's)

Mandatory meeting at 9am, KSU 930am.

Usual FG route used for the last 4 yrs.

Comfortable pace for all riders up to 3090 where divisions can be made w restrictions for riding.

REQUIRED Helmet, jacket, gloves. High recommendation for ankle covering shoes/riding boots and knee/shin protection.

Adequate safety consideration for yourself and others. Tires, brakes, chain maintenance.

We provide a group ride based on the MSF/BRC and RoadKing rules for riding w a staggered formation on the public roads and single file on the backroads. This ride works because the gnomes adjust to riders and try not to make anyone feel like they need to 'keep up.' Designated leaders, sweepers and go back riders will be appointed in the meeting and talk before the ride.

This is not a race. Its a cruise w ample opportunity to get up to speed in certain areas.

We do not leave riders behind. If a gap develops the leader/s of that group will slow in the straights to allow catch up. Sweeper will always stop for any rider as needed.

Keep your egos at home, this is a ride to meet fellow riders, enjoy some nice roads and have a healthy lunch. This is not a race. Experience range will be new-track riders, all are welcome. Ride is open to 2-up riding.

Forest Gnomes willing to volunteer please locate yourself w the usual 'FG' thanx!

Sounds cool since I live up in Conroe, but how long between stops? I've never done a group ride before.

+1 for heat, plus I have to work in the afternoon, so moving the time up might be better.

Edit: Oops, this is sunday, not saturday. No work for me, but I would be down for earlier

Awesome, a sunday ride. I'm down. Haven't been on this route in a while... Just as long as I don't get left behind.

Google maps says 2 hours, I'm assuming our pace will be a little quicker plus a stop for gas, so if we leave at 9:30, we should get there at 11. Add me to the list if we are doing the 9:00 meet, 9:30 ksu

I have never been on a group ride, so I will be slow too. This ride is noob friendly, I hope?

It usually takes about 1.5 hours as it is about 75 miles each way, this includes a stop for gas and water. I am down.

The traditional Forest Gnome route is about 81 miles. Correction on the Cali-Quest directions: It's a right off of 90 onto FM 3455, not 447
