I would probably use a leather cleaner and conditioner simply because someone else funked it up for you.

Febreze will really only mask the smell. It'll still be there, ready to spring forth next time the jacket gets sweaty.

If you don't want to pay for professional cleaning, you might try putting the jacket in a large trashbag with an opened freezer pak of baking soda (Costs about $1 in any supermarket). Seal the bag and let it sit for a week.

There are a couple of things you can do to prevent future smells.

Storage: If you are currently storing the jacket in an unventilated closet, try hanging it up in the garage. If you have multiple sets of gear, rotate them, so any one piece has a chance to fully dry and air out before it's worn again.

Hygeine: Lots of men seem unable to manage B.O. on hot days. Pay special attention to cleaning yourself. Try using antibacterial soap in areas that get stinky. Oh, and shaving really does help.

It's actually a BO type of issue not a gasoline one, the jacket is a couple years old and well.. I just haven't cleaned it yet (never stunked until recently)

Would saddle soap work on the inside armpit area of the jacket?

I have been keeping them in a trashbag hanging in my garage for a while anyways just because thats where I have the most room, I think I'm gonna try the arm n hammer thing to help prevent future 'break outs' but in the mean time I'm gonna try a couple of the things you all talked about to get the smell out
