I've always owned Honda Cars One well past 10 years/ 100,000 and my current one about to reach that marker. Aside from standard maintenance and getting rear ended, combined shop visits are 2. First one ended up being a small rock stuck on the brake pad causing it to squeel, Second was an automatic window went out. During that time pretty much everyone I know has gone through 2-3 cars to my one, and still sent theirs to the shop more frequently. Reliability always has been my #1 requirement in a vehicle, and I haven't seen anybody else get that kind of reliability out of another brand.

I haven't had the bike very long, but from what I've heard and read their bikes are built with the same quality and reliability so it seemed like while on 2 wheels with no cage around me it would be even more important to not get stuck on the side of the road.

I appreciate japanese reliability and features at a price point. Right now they all look like insect transformers though. There is only so much you can do with a bike, but when the shape of the air intake is %90 of the styling difference between marques there is a problem.

Triumphs don't strike me as beautiful, only purposeful. The same for BMWs.

Italian bikes though... I favor ducatis, because aside from the Multistrada they don't have an ugly bike (and if you're selling an adventure bike it has to be ugly )

I'd say moto-guzzi if every bike they made looked as good as the griso and v7 classic.

Kawasaki is my choice. Mostly because it was the first thing that was brought to my attention as a 10 or 11 year old kid, and I just kinda wanted one ever since. I had a Ninja 500(way too small for me, I'm a big guy.) traded up(and laterally I guess, cause it wasn't a ninja) to a ZR7S and loved it(previous owner didn't take great care of it, but not the bikes fault). Had to sell it, but if I ever get another bike, it will be a Versys or a Concours(if i'm older and have a better job).

Basically, nothing against the other brands, its just that my dream bike has always been a Kawasaki.

Who cares, if it has wheels. Seems dumb for you people who have loyalty to a certain brand. Not like they sponsor anyone for you.

So if you bought a Kawi and it broke down the same day you bought it, and cost you to fix, you'd buy another kawi?

Of course! I was just using Kawi as an example. My first bike is going to be a Kawi actually.

For a lot of people, bikes are emotional purchases. That is true even if they are commuting. If you're riding in this country, it isn't just about efficiency or cost. My 250, even though it was outdated horribly and mass-produced like no other, had that special something that made it more than economical transportation. You couldn't say the same thing about an economy car.

For emotional purchases, brand matters.

I have had Honda, Suki, Kawi, Yami, KTM and others, you will have hits and misses with all bikes. I will ride them all.

I've always been partial to Kawasaki, although I couldn't tell you why.

It may go back to the Jet-Ski days, where my parents had a few Kaw's.

I like them all though, and wish I still had all my old bikes! I will say that the Yamaha cruisers I ride/have ridden, have had the best transmissions I've ever felt.

Where the tranny on my Z1000 blows- but I still love the bike!

I went from:

Honda 900RR→Honda 600RR→Yamaha R1→Suzuki Hayabusa. The only bike I never have ridden was a Kawa. Not sure really, maybe becuase of the looks (and dash). I guess I'm partial to either.
