Truth in Advertising

http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/10/23...eut/index.html

Saw this and it reminded me of how furious I got a few weeks ago after buying some Decaf Tea. I'm pretty good about reading labels and packaging, but this one got by me and I was like.. :BangHead:

I bought a box of Lipton. The box has a big dark green banner across the top that says "DECAFFEINATED" 'naturally with pure spring water and effervescence <-- :eh: whatever.

Knowing about decaf coffee not really being decaf and alcohol free drinks still having alcohol, I read the whole box looking for the actual caffeine content but didn't see it.

Made some, drank it and of after a while, i feel the effects of caffeine and I'm like WTF?! I go back and look at the box again more closely and sure enough it's at the bottom of the directions on how to make the tea and looks like it's part of the instructions, no wonder why I missed it. I was looking for ingredients, not directions!! :BangHead:

So the box says it has 40mg of caffeine per 8oz serving?! So that would be 60mg for 12oz, when even Mt Dew is only 55mg/12oz.

I'm sure the lawyers would argue that de- can mean to reduce and not just the removal of, but I call BS! like this should be criminal. Why can't they just say reduced caffeine and clearly label it on the contents.

It sucks that I have become so sensitive to it and try to watch my intake. This doesn't help at all.

Phuckers! I hate marketing/advertising weenies.

You think fat-free mayo or fat-free milk is actually fat-free?

Nope.. and that's my point. It's just criminal how they are allowed to get away with like that.

American's are getting so fat because we have no idea what we are actually eating.

ummm...i think most americans know. they just dont give a .

its not like one day someone wakes up 70 pounds fatter, goes "WTF!", runs to the kitchen and reads the label of some zesty herbal italian dressing, and its like ", they got me!"

but otherwise i totally agree with you. sounds to me coffee makers are picking up corporate habits that work so well for the tobacco industry. thankfully coffee isnt going to give you lung cancer, but its addictive all the same.

america's getting fat cause we're getting lazier and our eating habits are going to the crapper. Most of you guys know someone who sits in front of the TV playing games, I'm not saying just playing games gets you fat but good habits start early and I'm not the perfect picture of good health but I'm frustrated with myself. I don't want my son getting used to sitting in front of the TV, so we go outside and kick the soccer ball around or wrestle or do something active like walk to the park and play.

It's kinda like 0% financing.... people construe that at there's no points. Not true. It can be 0.16%, 0.6% or whatever. Now, decaffeinated can just mean there was caffeine removed.

It's so deceiving though. U R right about that.

Yeah.. It sux. I've never been a coffee drinker; can't stand it! All my caffeine came from cokes. I used to drink quite a bit and talk about being wired!! and the insomnia, my gawd!! It got really bad when the chest started to flutter with Arrhythmia. :eh:

I quit cold turkey and ever since then, I am pretty sensitive to caffeine. I still have a soda ever now and then, but a bit too much and I pay for it.
The arrhythmia part is what scares me. Which is why I got so when I found out that the decaf tea I bought had more caffeine that a can of coke.

Exercise is important, but do you really know what we are eating? Unless you are cooking from scratch everyday, you don't really know.

Anything that has been packaged has been stripped down, mixed up, watered down and sugared up. Food is processed into mush and then formed to resemble what it used to be. lol

Americans = the most over fed, under nourished people in the world. :eh:
