This guy was a true and NEEDED to be locked up. I left out some details that the officer told me about the case, for time sake. If he does"gets his pushed in", NO ONE is going to cry for him.

I'm pretty sure that in Texas the insurance company has to offer the original owner the chance to buy it back. I totaled a bike about a year ago and said that I wanted to retain it and was told by the insurance company that they will get some bids for it to see what it's worth and that I had the first right to buy it back for whatever the high bid was. Bought back an 08 Aprilia Tuono with 7,000 miles and very little damage (cosmetic only and it was barely noticeable) for $750. Whoever said an 08 1k will sell for $6k with a salvage title is sniffing glue. Clear title retail is $7k. If I'm wrong and they are not legally required to do it get in contact with them quick. Once it enters the salvage yard it will go up for auction. If you can get it prior to that and save them shipping costs, etc. they will sell it to you.

A lot depends on what kind of auction it goes through. If it is a salvage auction, prices are low because it's a big gamble as to what they are buying. If it goes through a "drive thru" auction, it will go for more. At a "drive thru" the bike has to be able to drive thru. If the insurance people feel it is worth good money, it could be fixed and then auctioned. I do work for Adesa Auction in Houston and see bikes go for a good amount of money because the car dealers get excited and pay top dollar for themselves. I was there a few months ago and saw a 2001 F4i bring in $3800 and a 2009 ZX-14 bring in $7900. You just never know. They usually have several clean bikes (minimal damage) sitting around waiting to be fixed and/or paperwork.

Great to hear! Usually when you hear of stolen bikes and read the threads, it's nearly hopeless. Glad this turned out for the better.

Hope the guy gets everything thrown at him. Karma, .

congrats. I wanna have that feeling you and Milo have. Still no word on mine but I'll keep my fingers crossed. As far as buying the bike back, it was such a beauty and custom piece of work. I'm sure whatever you decide with your taste and patience, everything will work out well.

Thanks for the info, you just taught me alot. State Farm knows the bike is in "good shape", so we will see how things turn out.

I totaled my 954rr 4 years ago, in a freak accident. State Farm cut me a check for $500 less than what I paid for the bike. I was the second owner, so the 1st guy took the depreciation hit. They were up front and honest the whole time, and they gave me a great price on the bike as well. Honestly I am not that mad, (but I am little mad), at them for trying to recover some of there losses.

I just saw the bike, it is probably worth buying back, if the price is low enough. After doing some homework, believe I have 1st rights to a buy back.

If I get the bike back it well be probably be turned into a track bike. Mainly because I have always wanted one. I won't have to worry about ruining my only bike at the track. Afterward I can always sell it to another track addict, and share the joy of the track.

Bottomline, I'm still going after the Aprillia

Congrats on getting your bike back! Was this from that huge bust up in Cleveland/Splendora area that I heard about? Three arrests, I think, from that meth lab. They mentioned on the news about stolen items. ??
