Sweet Justice, Thanks to Police!

My motorcycle was recovered 2 days ago by the police. The inital thread is here
http://www.motohouston.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=184922

I spoke to the officer about 40 mins ago. He basically told me the guy had 3 other stolen bikes in his garage. They came to his house for some drug and other shittier charges, and discovered the bikes when they searched his house/garage.

He had 2 "tricked out" hayabusas, an R1, and my 08 CBR 1K. The had already gotten rid of my exhaust.

The officer told me that the guy will have a felony drug charge, and all three bikes are going into 2nd felony charge. He told me more, but I was too excited about my bike. I failed to comprehend some of the of it.

Bottom Line: This guy is going to jail a for a while, he won't be around to be stealing and/or parting out stolen bikes. He will do real time.
Apprently my bike is good shape, besides the exhuast and probably some ignition damage. I still don't know if they broke the handlebar lock. But they were apparently using a "shade key".

The shitty/awesome thing is that State Farm who owns the bike now, won't let me see the bike once they have it. The Police are going to let me see it on Thur or Fri, before State Farm picks it up. So I will have a better idea if I want to try to buy the bike back.
Thanks again to the police!

Why does state farm own the bike? They gave you money for it being stolen?

I had full coverage. They paid me for the value of the bike, after I put my claim in. At that point it became there property when it was recovered.
I spoke to the agent in charge of the claim, she told me if the bike was in good shape the may auction it.
So there is real chance I may not get to buy my bike back.

How does that work on the money they give you? Do they give you buying price that you paid? Bluebook? or what? Always kinda wondered that

I almost like the option route. I bought the bike bike new in 08, since then I have put over 20,000 miles on it. Most people think it is relatively new when they look at it. If the mileage comes out during the auction, I don't think many people are going to want to buy a 20,000 mile sport bike.
But to be there need to know someone with a dealer's license, because I will not be able to purchase at auction otherwise.

State Farm give you NADA retial value, some of the value of aftermarket parts you have put on, plus the tax and vehicle registration.

I paid 12.1 when I got the bike 3 years ago, they paid me almost 9k a few weeks ago. It was good price considering the age and the mileage of the bike.

Glad they found it, and hope you can get it back. Did you get onto another bike w/ the 9k?

1st of all, thanks for the well wishing.

No, I was saving for a new car at the time. I took the money for the bike, plus that, and bought a new car cash.

I work a 52+ hours Mon-Fri, and I have no real bills. It won't take too long for me to save enough for another bike, if this one is not worth getting back or is unattainable.

I have to remeber to breathe if I see a picture of an RSV-4. If I don't go back to school, and if my gf doesn't threaten to leave me. I will probably get one during the winter.

A non destroyed 1k at auction will go for 6 grand if someone doesn't destroy it at auction. They cut the fuel line on my bike at auction so it wasn't a running bike.

Didin't realize a liter bike with 20k miles, could have such a high price. I'm going to look at it 2morrow, so hopefully it is still worth it.
