Suit recommendatioins

been putting this off for a bit now and i figure i may as well get one for track or spirited rides etc...

i need a suit. "entry level" priced if there is one. i am a short-ish and on the thick side. 5'7'' 200~ 36 waist etc.

budget. say 500 or so, less is better but i do know that u get what u pay for.

anyone got any decent ones in mind?

I got an AVG sport and I like it, I think is the viper model.

To be honest, I've seen the stuff cycle gear carries, sedici or something like that, and they seem well made, may want to stop by and try them on.

look for a good used suit. I picked up one that was worn 2 times for 250 bucks. it was a 900 Teknic suit.

For 500 u should be able to get a good suit. I wouldn't get anything sedici if I were u. Single stitching and probably poor quality....that's coming from somebody I know who works there too.

I picked up my BKS suit from cyclegear during a sale. It was a $999 suit and I got it for $460. Just shop around and u will find something. I would go try some on at cyclegear just to get a baseline on what size fits but many of them fit differently but at least u will be in the ballpark.

Cortech Latigo RR one piece is also an excellent option for the price.

If you go with a cheap suit, get bohn under armor to wear under it, and be sure to get a good back protector.. they will help make up for the cheap suit short comings...buy direct from bohn on line.. the pricing is good and the customer service is outstanding... tell about the suit you get and the type of riding you intend to do and they will match you up with what you need...
lets face it, any leathers are better than no leathers...

I picked up a Frank Thomas XTI 2-piece for $400 at cycle gear about 2 years ago. Nothing to compare, but I really like it.

I would definitely recommend a 2-piece! At the track I can take the jacket off and not have the top hanging down like a 1-piece, and I have the option to wear the jacket only for the street.

+1

rode track one time and got hooked, bought a mint condish used Teknic suit off e-bay for $250. Used it for about 14 or 15 more TD's. including three wrecks...while it is not destroyed, I figured I got my use out of it and replaced it with an alpinestars mx-1

I'd tell you the teknic is for sale, hundred bucks...but it's a size 42, fits me being 6' and 175 lbs like a glove. and it has a hole over the left shoulder pad, i'd think you'd like a prettier suit for your first one...add all your own rash marks

1 piece is the way to go. you know the top is not gonna detach itself from the bottom in the event of a crash.

I have just checked the SEDICI. Mind you, no elbow or shoulder exterior protector. Only "padded" protection. I believe you might be better off with what the other fellows are recommending: Get a known brand used suit. You donŽt want to find out how good or bad a suit is after a crash. In this cases, go with the flow..get something known.
Besides, if you start buying extra amour youŽll end up paying the equivalent of a well known branded suit

You're going to have to try some things on. Each manufacturer cuts their suits different, and the cut is even diffrent in different suits from the same manufacturer. Fit is important. So while a* may make good suits.....if you don't have skinny arms and legs, they're not going to fit right.

I ordered a brand new rack suit from Spartan Leathers for $550, it comes in Thursday and if it doesn't fit right then ill just return it for 10 bucks and order a custom suit from them for $700.

Lot's of deals to be had on used suits though. I got my Frank Thomas for $175 never downed.
