Crack Cocaine Problem

I have a problem with an employee. I suspect that he has become hooked on crack cocaine. We have a company pee test policy as well as spot testing. How long after use can crack cocaine be detected though a test? Is there a better way to test for it? I need some hard evidence. Is there anyone on this board who has medical profession experience who can help better educate me about methods of detection? Has anyone else had this problem with any of their employees?

Thank you,

GJ

The problem is that at this point I have only hear-say BS that this employee is using, I need to be better informed on how to get hard evidence. How long after use can it be detected in a test?

cocaine gets out of the system quiclky about 48 hours tops. Unlike marijuana which can be detected for up to 60days. sucks huh? crackheads/coc heads can get away with it while pot heads are screwed. Well at least you won't catch a pothead selling his house for a hit

That is true. You are hired at will and can be fired at will. Just let him go. You do not have to provide any reason.

not completly true i work at an er
so if they use a large amount or use it on a daily basis it will show up for 10 days after the less they use the less it stays in the system like you said if they only hit up once it will only last 2 3 days if he looks jacked when he comes to work test him the same day

yes, you can fire him at will, but if you dont have sufficient reason, they can file for unemployment, and you will be paying for their habit, while they sit at home and get high for free.

at least come up with some reasonable exuse that a unemployment officer would see as legit. if the employee is violating some kind of policy or procedure make sure other employees hear you tell them their warnings. you may need them to write a statement about them being warned.

if they are hourly, just cut thier hours drasticly. your not firing them, and if they choose to quit becuase they cant pay their bills at this job, its not your fault. you could also just increase their workload, give them many more assignments, make sure they are busy ALL the time doing something, they may just quit.

Hair test is the best and hardest to beat (don't know the legal name tough), but expensive. SOme big companies like valero in san antonio do random tests. If you are the lucky one, they will cut a chunck of hair. CHeapest one, is urine test and unless he has money to spend taking some stuff to pass the test. Recently they pass a new memo stating that random drug test will be held because they suspected some people where on it, since then no-one seems to be stone at work LOL.
