Smile New to dirtbikes but digging it.

Hailz to all in the dirt bike forum!!!

I recently bought a 85 Kawasaki KDX 200 two stroke. I have been riding every evening for a few hours. Its such a great feeling riding down into a deep grassy basin or riding alongside a steep incline, I'm quite comfortable riding but hoping to excel at being a good rider considering I am new to riding moto anything. There will be much for me to learn and excel at, I just cannot wait to to ride again. I hope to know what it feels like to ride a wheelie in a grassy field and then dive into a incline in the outdoors.

Thanks for reading my rant about my new hobby.

Good Luck Have Fun Moto dudes and dudettes!

Dont take it the wrong way, but if you like riding that much now, just wait until you ride a newer model MX bike. It will be a night and day difference from that bike and you'll love riding in the dirt that much more.

What nice about MX tracks is that you don't have to be fast or jump everything to enjoy riding on the track. Plus most locations have more than just one track and some are more mellow than others. I'd encourage any skill lever to get out on a track and have fun.

The next bike I get will likely be another MX bike. I've had the itch for years now.

Do tell!! Man that sounds really nice! Yeah finding spots to ride sometimes is difficult. I need to get familiar with finding some MX tracks. Is the rumor of the dirtbike track by HMP true?

where do you live? there are several good track throughout H town, I am sure one is close to you.

A good resource of information is www.houstonmotocross.com

Likewise, a few of us, ocassionally, run the Texas Xtreme series hare scrambles. Those are fun too. Check this forum as some rides come here often.

Enjoy the dirt bike.

I have a love hate relationship with the dirt right now. More love than hate though, so it'll be okay. Lots of riding can be had within an hour and a half of Central Houston. Sam Houston National Forest trail system, Cornerstone MX, Ultimate MX, Rio Bravo (the one by HMP), 3 Palms are just a few off the top of my head. Welcome to the 2 wheel addiction.

Your KDX is the perfect learner bike. Very friendly powerband for a beginner unlike newer MX bikes. Remember it is 80% rider, 20% bike. Depending on how frequent you continue to ride you have a bike now for the next 6-12 months or even longer.

Yeah I plan on getting a stator and light installed at least make it country friendly for some dirt trails and evening riding. I think I am pretty confidant in basic stuff so far, no jumping has happened yet.

I jacked up my knee this past weekend during practice @ an Xtreme race. I have a thread on here about the injury...and I agree with SilverBullet...that KDX has plenty of power for a beginner like yourself. Not the "best" MX bike in the world, especially b/c of it's age but, it'll serve it's purpose well for you.

You are in my neck of the woods. I live in the Medical Center. I try to ride a dirt track at least once a month, I'll PM you next time I ride, should be on the 30th or 31st.

OH my! I think there are some good recovery supplements for healing injuries faster- I trained for few years in derby and sustained a decent amount of injuries. Branched-chain amino acids activate key enzymes in protein synthesis after physical exercise even injury helped me out a great deal. Hope you recover fast. That blasted dirt!! *scoff*

derby? roller derby?

I am also an avid inner-loop dirtbike rider - I am hoping to put around on the Rio Bravo trail system this weekend

just curious....is there any seat foam on that thing?

for what it is worth, if you want to experience kicking the leg over a more modern dirtbike, I have a spare bike that you can ride if you are ever at one of our group rides.

Yes like Roller Derby! OH yeah there no foam seat on it I took it off. Had to lower the front at the triple trees and leave the seat off to feel comfy with the height.
