When I rode his cr, I thought I would have no problem keeping the front end down since I'm a hefty 225lbs, but that pulled the front up like nothing with me sitting on the tank. I did think the powerband would have more of a hit than it did, like when you wind out a sport bike, but the power creeps in and the front end just slowly rotates upwards.

I built, owned and raced one a few years ago. Fast and fun but ill-handling. A Service Honda aluminum framed CR500 would be a better handler.

Don't ask me why my face is blurred - I don't remember. Maybe it was because I used this picture on eBay when I parted the bike out a couple years ago.

No. 8-petal reed valve only, standard stuff. (FYI: The Kawasaki KX500, which lasted as long as the CR500 did, had KIPS on them, but, while good, the CR motor was more widely accepted as the brute of the class. Both made good desert racers, though.)

Here's some pix from the engine during it's last rebuild. I freshened it up and sold it for a small fortune on eBay. Notice that it's stock as . Still made nearly 60 horsepower.

Randy Porter at Texas Metal Werks in Spring Branch does the aluminum frame conversions (about 1 every 2 months) - a few have been motards - I believe he is working on a KX conversion now

I used to have a KDX400 two smoke. I wanted to make a "sportsman style" motard, but my friends said I was a dumbass, so I didn't. They were probably right.

Today I was at Wild West looking at a 690 they have on the floor, conversation got to two smoke KTM's. I'm thinking my extra set of wheels, rotors and sprockets might be good for a 300 two stoke KTM. Wot say?

Rebuilds HAVE to be cheaper than what I am dropping on my 450SMR.

Find a 380.
That or you could just use the 300.

I believe Grindio has one of the 300s. He might be a good source for some advice on the subject.

The hot KTM would be the 550 2 smoke 1986 or so with power valve.
