How to install YAMAHA R6 mid pipe (2006+)

For those who have been on rides with me when my R6 was street legal know how sexy that thing sounds and also know how scary it gets when I fly by you!

This is the second exhaust I've done and be happy to share with some of you that may need some info on how to.

here it is.... How to make your stock exhaust into a full system by cutting that big nasty and heavy catalytic converter.

There are two kinds of mid pipes...
-Clamp "Y" pipes
-Weld to headers "Y" pipe

I got the one that you have to clamp to the headers...
Ps: You can use the stok muffler and any slip on like the GYTR from yamaha (love it for street riding.. it doesn't get really loud until you pass 8k and at about 12k it just screams!!!

To start, measure approximately 2 1/2 inches from the flat side of the CATBOX toward the front of the header. This will give you a good starting point, you may need to make 2 cuts, meaning you may need to remove 2 3/4 inches. Its always best to cut too little rather than too much.

You will want to drill out the CATS inside the two tubes on the header. Remove as much as shown on the right side of the header tube, this is just an example be sure to get any loose pieces do this on both sides. (very easy to do if you have an impact gun at a shop)

You are going to need to spread the tubes to fit the mid pipe on because once you cut the CAT off the header goes into a relaxed state so just take a screw driver and place it in between the tubes and the mid pipe will slip right on.

Do not over tighten the clamps as this could lead to damaging them, just tighten them up good and snug.
