Mom wants me to get a truck.

She tries to convince me to get a truck, as opposed to a motorcycle.

Her:
The truck will last a long time and you can drive it winter, summer, fall, spring, you can carry anything you want and tow things, if you want to move you're covered, taking people out is much easier, etc.

Me:
Mom... It's not a motorcycle.

I'm winning, right guys?

She's your mother and she's gonna worry no matter what. My mom hates motorcycles and always lectures me. She's just looking out for you is all. She has a valid point about getting a truck. But unless you have a vehicle now it's best to have both. If you just have a bike it could be a pain in the from time to time. Going out with friends, hauling stuff, bad weather.

You're both right.

Motorcycles aren't about "need". It's about "want".

Trucks are great to move your motorcycle to the track or to ride in the hill country.

Will the bike be the only means of transportation?

If not then you can always buy a trailer, and put a hitch on your car. Ask me how I know.. Im on the second car I've owned thats pulled my bike hundreds of miles to a trackday. Less comfortable than a truck, but way better mileage if you can believe it.

I spent 10k on my bike, but only 3k on my truck lol. If you don't have transportation, get a used truck like an older ford ranger. If you have a decent full time job, and still live with your parents, it shouldn't be hard to get both.

+1 Not only gas, but insurance. Trucks suck that down. Get a cheap bike if you look around you should be able to come up with a good deal that won't break your bank.

When I own a truck, I never NEED a truck. As soon as I sell the truck, I am begging to borrow someone's because a need just arose. Never fails. Has happened all 4 times I sold a truck.

I have a truck....AND a bike Truck has 130k miles and is 10 years old...bike is 6 weeks old and has 1700 miles lol. I love my truck and it serves utility purposes excellently. A truck is more practical, I'm guessing you're pretty young living at home. Do what your parents want you to do, wait a few months, and bring up the bike thing again.
