Receiving bad news sucks the big one...

I just found out that an old riding buddy from my earlier years was involved in a really bad crash Friday night up in Chicago....logged into the old BBS this morning to find this news.

Quote:
He's still in a coma and the doctors aren't going to touch him unless he wakes up, here's a list of what I know is wrong with him and I'm sure there's more. Broken, arm, collar bone, ribs, leg, wrist, foot, heel, pelvis, his face is pretty much shattered and will need to be put back together with reconstructive surgery, severe head, neck, back and brain trauma as well as misc. other broken bones

and another update

Hey just wanted to let everyone know that there is a page going to keep everyone updated on Dan. If you don't already know, he was in a bike accident Friday night, he's at good Samaritan hospital in downers grove. He has severe brain injuries and at this time he is in a coma, not able to breathe on his own. The most they know at this time is that if he does make it though he will more than likely never be able to care for himself. He has 3 daughters aribella, brylee, and giada. His wife Nicole is on her own and is in need of help from everyone!
Stay safe out there kiddos.

From what I read it ain't looking good. Looks like the driver turned left in front of my buddy.

Quote:
Police said Donaldson was driving a black 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Route 31 when he struck the passenger side of a blue 2008 Chevy Avalanche. He was not wearing a helmet.
The pickup was being driven north on Route 31 by Butler, who was trying to turn left on to the I-88 ramp.
I hope someone here learns from his mistake.

I have three kids, a wife, and aging parents. I carry $1m of life insurance and disability. Life insurance pays with a big fat tax free check no questions asked, right away. So I broke it down to go to my wife, my parents, and trusts for my kids college. That way it can't be squandered by any one "fool".

Ask yourself, who will take care of your responsibilities when you cannot?

FYI 1 mil doesn't go very far these days.... especially with 3 kids and such. Not bashing, just saying you may want to look into more coverage.
