DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts on Craigslist.

NEVER WIRE FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION, MONEYGRAM or any other wire service - anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer.

FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON, and BANKS WILL CASH THEM AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE when the fake is discovered weeks later.

CRAIGSLIST IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TRANSACTION, and does not handle payments, guarantee transactions, provide escrow services, or offer "buyer protection" or "seller certification"

NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)

AVOID DEALS INVOLVING SHIPPING OR ESCROW SERVICES and know that ONLY A SCAMMER WILL "GUARANTEE" YOUR TRANSACTION.

DO NOT RENT HOUSING WITHOUT SEEING THE INTERIOR, OR PURCHASE EXPENSIVE ITEMS SIGHT-UNSEEN - in all likelihood that housing unit is not actually for rent and that cheap item does not exist.

DO NOT SUBMIT TO CREDIT CHECKS OR BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR A JOB OR FOR HOUSING UNTIL YOU HAVE MET THE INTERVIEWER OR LANDLORD/AGENT IN PERSON.
My sister-in-law was stupid enough to wire someone 2000 bucks off CL cause the deal on the car was just too good for her to pass up. moron.

You're right, honest people are scarce now-a-days.

I literally laugh out loud if I ever contancted one and the reply came back as: okay, I actually live in Canada, not Houston. but...all you have to do is send me your credit card number or bank checking account routing info and I'll ship you the bike.
Violah! So what is it? and you'll get this brand new gixxer for $5000.

It is tough, and you know people fall for the stupid every day. I feel for them in some way.

Sort of like the four dimension?

I have bought and sold all kinds of stuff with Craigslist. You just need to be able to ask screening questions, if it feels at all questionable...walk away.

I sold a bike trailer a few months ago and delivered it to the guy in his apartment parking garage and we did the deal right there. After un hooking it I got back in my truck. When he saw that my .45 was very close to my hand he asked if I ever really needed that in Houston? I replied...Not yet.

Assume that everyone is out to get you. Expect the un-expected. Got a gun? Good, bring it (just in case). Also, try and meet at a popular area, Walmart is a good spot for example.

(The last place I sold a phone was at the front doors of FRY's, always a lot of people here.)

I mainly text people that have listed phone numbers.

Just by the way the other person is talking with me, tells a whole lot. If they even sound ignorant, I wont deal with them.
