CRF 70 Carb

I was riding (Hauling @$$ on a straight away) my crf 50 with a crf 70 motor last week in my hood when the motor just died on me. I kicked it a few times and it wouldent start so I pushed it home. When I got home I tried to start it but it would only start and run on choke. So I took apart the carb and cleaned it twice. I have a Trailbikes cdi box on it that i thought could be messing with it so I put my stock one on and still the same problem. Then I traded coil packs with my 50 and put a new spark plug on and still the same problem.
So after all that I decied id adjust the air/ fuel and turn up the idle screws and that fixed my problem.

But what would cause the bike to die while riding and need to have the air/ fuel and idle screws adjusted???

Dirty/clogged carb from old gas.

I always run my 70's and 50's out of gas before putting them away. Just cutoff the fuel and leave it running until it dies. You can put a little Sta-bil in the tank too.

Josh,

if it will only run when the choke is one it is more than likely from bad gas as what was posted earlier,

Pull the carb, and clean it real good, check the main jet, putt it out and clean it real good, make sure there is not any deposits in there.

I had the same issue before.

Also check the gasket on the intake, as well as the connection at the carb, if you are sucking air it is going to run like and really lean unless you have the choke pulled/engaged.

ethanol in the gas will clog up those tiny jet holes and passageways, also spray some WD40 around the intake gasket and the head and if it the idle goes up it has an air leak, but I doubt it is that.
