Claims of Catastrophic failure of Pilot Road 3s on another forum.

What do you guys think?

I think he is half full of . He says the tires have right under 10,000 miles on them but the bike has just under 10,000 miles. Its an 06. And these are tires that came out this year.

Plus there is no squaring.

And I dont know how many miles the Pilot Roads last but there seems to be a lot of rubber left for 10 grand.

I have seen tires fall apart like this once when I rode a flat tire in very hot weather for about 8 miles home going slow. When I got home it looked like that because the tires were bending on that spot and the middle was fine like the ones in the picture.

Why did they not rip apart in the middle where most of the stress of acceleration is taking place?

Something dont jive.

But Michelin DID have a recall for some front Pilot Powers before.

wow that was way to much reading! hopefully those repliers could attack the area 51 alien problems so we can tackle that truth down! Stinks about the tires and accident interested to see what the final outcome is. Thanks for the post in here!

Low tire pressures and the tire over heated

As for the crash, i didn't see a blown out front tire.
.... and if a front blew, I would think he would be on the ground, not flying through a back window.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner!
I guarantee it was too low of a pressure coupled with an extended high speed run, maybe not the day it happened but the tire could have been overheated previously.
Like everyone else I'm curious, but that's the only PR3 issue I've heard of.

Exactly, like I said, only time I saw it was when I ran on a flat.

High speed runs? Isn't that tire "Z" rated? That bike really can't push those tires on a high speed run now can they? I guess running it almost flat at 130 will do anything in but I don't see a "heat ring" around it anywhere... or does that only apply to cars?

I am actively trying to learn all I can about tires so I'm really interested in this one...

Something smells fishy about the entire story. His miles, the fact he had another accident posted where he got run over by a motorhome..

And, after the rear failed like that, why in the would you leave the front tire on and take a chance?

Doesn't matter what it's rated. If you run it fast enough with low pressure it will come apart.
